  1. So I'm still a bit unclear on what part of the seat is pressed down on, the front edge or the rear? Thanks!
  2. I'm currently trying to accomplish this in my 64, so as to put a set of seat belts in, but I'm having no luck getting the bottom front of the seats to budge.
  3. Great stuff all. I'm confident enough in my wrenching to have a go at it. Will post when there's progress.
  4. Ok, thanks. I haven't seen any bolts anywhere. Perhaps under carpet. I am worried that the seat is back far enough to cover them. Will have another go at it.
  5. Guys, I've got an issue with the 4 way power seat on my deluxe interior '64. The motor(s) run in all 4 switch positions but the seat doesn't move. I'm not seeing any way to get the seat up out of the car since it's stuck in its position. Can anyone shed some light on how to access the bolts?
  6. This begs the question - can we use that longer length in our doors by just draping it inside, or do we need to compare it to a stock Buick length and somehow trim to fit? I know I repaired the one on my previous 63 by crimping a small lead fishing "bb" to the cable that had lost it's end, so that might allow trimmed shorter ones to fit into the joy stick mechanism.
  7. The bare cables, from the bottom of the chrome base, not connected to the joystick mount, are between 33.5-34.5". HTH
  8. The NOS Pontiac mirror arrived today in fine shape. It does have the longer cables to accommodate fender mounting through the firewall. I will have to measure the Buick cables and shorten the new acquisition. EVERYTHING above the sheet metal is identical to our Riv unit. The mirror is NOT bigger. It came with a Tempest template, detailed mounting instructions, and all the hardware/bracketry EXCEPT for the interior escutcheon plate. The little chromed joystick controller has a rounded end, whereas the Buick one has a flattened end. If anyone wants the Pontiac part number, it is: Group 10.185 Part No. 983750. The base casting part # is D60105-401.
  9. That's interesting because I pulled part numbers off both the Buick and the Pontiac and they are identical. Mind you the number is on the base, not the lens housing. If your Pontiac mirror is right side specific, I might be interested. The "joy stick" and escutcheon look to be identical to our Riv units.
  10. Just scored an NOS 63 Pontiac remote mirror on ebay. Looks to be identical to ours. "News at 11". $250. Now we'll see if it's reversible, or if I just replace the wobbly driver's side.
  11. One more thing. My driver's side remote mirror is a bit loose between the base and the door skin. Looking at the NOS one that recently sold, I see the forward mounting pin, but nothing else to anchor it. What am I missing?
  12. Thanks Tom. It doesn't look like anyone makes a repop remote version for our cars. If anyone has a nice one that would flip sides I'd be interested. I'll go over to the parts forum and look around too. Also - the manual mirrors I see pitch back from the base, not forward like the remotes do. Small point, but to me it would look a bit funky.
  13. I've got a loaded 64 with a driver's remote mirror from the factory. I'm finding I miss having a passenger side mirror for lane changes with a stiff neck... I see tri-shield manual mirrors available on line. Does anyone know if a manual passenger side mirror was ever a dealer installed option and, if so, have a photo of what was used? Side note: I've got a '58 Chevy that I put a passenger side mirror on. For the 55-57 Chevy crowd they make a convex mirror, so I bought one of those, yarded out the housing, and installed the mirror face on the 58 variety. I works great! Both are the same size as the Riv mirror face.
  14. Gents, My 63 was the unfortunate recipient of a smack in the rear end yesterday and I am in need of a right rear quarter panel as well as the tail panel. I see that if I'd only been smacked a month earlier I could have bid on the NOS tail panel on eBay! If anyone has a lead on some solid pieces I'd appreciate hearing from you. I am not into rust. Thanks! Deano K. Portland, Oregon
  15. I looked back and saw that. It was actually me that decoded my own car months ago...
  16. 736 is an all vinyl Sandalwood interior SS I don't know. D is a radio S7 is remote mirror U7 is power windows I7 ??? (I6 is tinted windows)
  17. I've got a new headlight switch on order from CARS. I had just bought a new one in the low $20 range from the local Chevy muscle car repop parts guy which must have led to my problem, since I didn't recall ever having the flashing business going on prior.. It looked to be the same physically, but I guess it doesn't feature that more robust internal fuse that has been talked about (for twice the money) Deano K. 63 Riviera 58 Chevy 2 door 55 MGTF 1500 72 Volvo 1800E 73 Volvo 1800ES
  18. In the garage with brights on it takes over a minute for the light show to begin. While driving it is almost immediate. Unplugging a high beam light stops it. Doesn't seem to matter which one. Reoccurs when all 4 lights are plugged in. Purchased a new floor switch which made no difference in the problem. Nothing obvious, so will do some more wire chasing when I get back from the beach.
  19. Thanks for the steer guys. I'll get to work and post my findings.
  20. Low beams work fine. High beams work fine for a bit and then the whole shebang starts cycling off and on. No other engine or electrical symptoms while this light show is occurring. Ideas? Thanks. Deano K.
  21. Thanks for the replies. That's what I figured but didn't know if I should be shooting for 15 or higher. I had a friend rebuild it to spec. The biggest problem was with most gasket kits not having the correct internal gaskets. The PO or someone had an incorrect gasket which was blocking a couple internal vacuum circuits. Proper float level is is important and might be the cause of your flooding issue. My 63 Buick shop manual shows a chapter for Carter AFB and a chapter for Rochester 4jet pertaining to the 4700 series. I believe mine is original. Plus my body number and engine number match. Yes it is in the data base. Thanks, Deano
  22. After a thorough/correct Rochester 4jet carb rebuild and tuneup I'm getting just about 13MPG around town and some freeway. I'm figuring that is about as good as it's ever going to get. The car runs great! Anyone with other opinions / experience and advice? Thanks! Deano K.
  23. My 63 was shipped from Grand Rapids MI to Portland OR last year via open transporter for $900. The process took about 3 weeks due to no one being interested in doing the job for awhile. The driver was an old school guy who took care of the car fine but pulled the key out in the accessory position which ran the battery down to dirt and fried the little coil in the clock during the process. It's the little things... Deano K. 55 MG 58 Chevy 63 Buick and others
  24. The GS also comes standard with the "Instantaneous Reading Gas Gauge", as you'll be watching the needle move from full to empty as you drive down the street with the dual quads running that 425! Deano K. 63 with newly dialed in 4 jet...
  25. My kick panels are carpeted and have a horizontal bright metal strip along the bottom. But they do have cardboard under the carpeting. Who knows what they were thinking?!? I'm going to tackle a non working windshield washer setup on mine shortly. Talk about some engineering "genius" in that system... This is a non AC car so YMMV. Deano K. 63
