1947 56C Project "Can't finish unless you start"
jackofalltrades70 replied to jackofalltrades70's topic in Me and My Buick
Hood is back off of the car. Worked more on the front fender alignment. I am getting closer!! I hope that tomorrow I can finish the front end sheet metal alignment and bolt everything tight. More sheet metal persuasion is to be had on the front drivers fender, one of the short pontoon extensions behind the drivers door, the fender skirts and interior garnish. If I really settle down and get-r-done, I would hope I can lay all of that to bed before the end of the weekend. If that is the case, I'll go pick my final color and buy the epoxy primer. Note to self: Order new paint gun! -
Derek Glad to gear she is better abd back at home. She'll feel better yet in her own surroundings. Still praying. Matt

Looking at a 1949 Super Convertible

Funny how all of us "convertible" guys chimed in on this post. Looking forward to seeing pictures and a "happy" face. Matt -
I am not an expert on charitable status. I would imagine that the aaca could accept a donation and that somehow a chapter could/would benefit. Someone with this experience will have to chime in. Matt
-
John, My suggestion would be to see if someone from a local chapter would be interested in helping out by assuming this task. Maybe even the chapter itself if you agree to a donation to the chapter for their assistance. Which, by the way, would be tax deductible. They could help clean up the cars and advertise them or possibly someone knows someone that would be interested in your cars. I would think that you could possibly save a lot of money doing things in this form than involving transport, auction fees, etc. just my two cents.

So Mr. Earl When does a moderator step in and either delete a thread auch as this or how do you handle these situations? Jus' askin'

I will be using an epoxy sealcoat to prevent anything from bleeding through. Ppg is the paint of choice, so their epoxy will be the first thing sprayed. -

I am wet sanding with 500grit. I cannot feel the imperfections still needing repair without the water and sanding. I've handled too many hot castings over the years. I have some more repairs to do here and there, especially on the front driver fender. Will probably pull the hood off tonight after sanding other half so I can work on the fender alignment some more. Thanks for all of the kind words guys! -
1947 Buick trunk handle lock tumbler removal
jackofalltrades70 replied to jackofalltrades70's topic in Buick - Pre War
Thanks to Bill, I was able to remove the lock mechanism. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out how the handle is still spinning on the shaft. The previous owners must have spun it on a weld, or was it press fit into the handle so hard that it shouldn't spin. Either way, I have to figure this out or I'm changing handles. -

Well, here are some pics of progress. Wet sanding my way around the car. Still have to adjust more on the front fenders. Drivers side low, passenger high and the left/right isn't correct yet either. It's really starting to look like something and I'm getting anxious to paint. Still, taking my time is better. -

Moved her back around in the garage and backed her out today. Cleaned all of the dust off the car, and fit the pontoon on the passenger door. Finally it is back in primer and looks good. Going to have to work on the front end sheet metal alignment some more, now the hood isn't centered and I don't know how I "hosed" that up. Fender seems low on the passenger side too. GRRRRRR! Still, all in all, every time I do anything to the ol' girl, she's closer to being done. -

thanks Willie. That will come in very handy. Matt -
BTW, did you get any "extra" of the rubber tacking strip? I know a guy doing a 47 RM convertible that's gonna need some.......

Mike, I know what you are saying about the "red putty" stuff. I haven't found a way to not use it on my car. Lookin' good my friend. Matt

1947 Buick trunk handle lock tumbler removal
jackofalltrades70 replied to jackofalltrades70's topic in Buick - Pre War
Let me elaborate some more.......the key works and I'm able to unlock it, but the shaft free spins inside the handle. This makes it difficult to turn if the trunk is closed and sealed well. I am going to have the piece re-chromed and was getting everything together to take to plater. I would imagine that the tumbler assembly should be taken out to be chromed anyways. Can someone move this thread to the post war. I don't know how I managed to get it here.................. -
I'm needing to remove the lock and tumbler from my trunk door handle and I do not see a procedure for such action listed in any of my manuals. Is there a trick? Any ideas? Thanks for the help. Matt

jackofalltrades70 replied to jackofalltrades70's topic in Me and My Buick
A little sanding here and there on the pontoon. A little filler primer to fill some heavier scratches. Started the painstaking organization of the parts that need to be taken to the chrome shop. Inevitably, some of the parts will have to wait until winter time as the funds just aren't going to be there all at once. I am going to do the parts that are big and functional on the car. Some of the trim items and handles, etc. will probably have to wait. I will take it all with me to see what the price will be so I can send my wallet into sticker shock. Will have to see. A little more prepwork and then I'll roll her back out of the garage to see in some better light and give her a good wet sanding and rinsing off. She's really dusty right now. Matt -
Robert, Let your dad know that we are counting on him to follow his doctors directions and not over-do anything until he is able. I'm praying for all of you as I know that these times are scary. Take it easy bro and we're here for you great Buickmen. Matt

Dale, Just using rattle can. Not at home right now, but i think it's rustoleum. Everything will be sealed with epoxy from ppg as that is what the paint is gonna be. -

Back in the garage for 1.5 hours tonight. Pontoon spotwelds drilled out, and re-welded. Skim coat of filler applied. I have to find some rubber washers tomorrow so I can finish aligning the front and bolt it down tight. A little more sanding here and there and I'll make some more filler primer fly. Going to have to bring my vette out of winter slumber. It's blocking the door for the buick. Gonna have to move it outside and blow it off and wet sand..........More to come. Matt -
Congrats Pete! Cannot wait to see the car.
