1947 56C Project "Can't finish unless you start"

Made it out into the garage for 5 hours today. Dug out the convertible top, put it in the car again, and bolted the new bow on. Looks nice. I figured out how to get the "chromed" parts off of the top assembly. I will then have the rest blasted and powdercoated I think. I also removed the stainless pieces over the two windshield glasses. I cleaned all of the repaints, primer and more primer that were all over these. They are going to need some finess work in the dent removal department. I also have a little more trim to remove from the car so I can finish up some of these last areas that are pending before finishing the bodywork and having it ready for paint. Anyways, it felt good to be out in the garage again and working on the car again! matt -

Well, I got my new convertible bow back and it looks good wrapped up in the plastic! haha. I have to dig out the convertible top and figure out what I am gonna do with it and how much money it will cost me................it really looks as if taking everything apart and having the parts that are chromed, re-chromed is pretty darn difficult. Looks like pivot pins will have to be pressed or drilled out and then I'll have to make new ones to put it back together. Anyways it looks like PennDutch restorations did a wonderful job on the wooden bow steam-bending. Thanks Jeff! Matt -

Would You Restore or Just Preserve This Car?
jackofalltrades70 replied to a topic in General Discussion
Good choice to preserve! What a beautiful specimen to maintain! Most of us would have loved to had something like your car to start with as a base. Would have saved us many thousands of dollars, a lot of blood, sweat and downright unacceptable language. But, that's what this hobby is all about. Enjoying your car, how you would enjoy it! Matt -

Lamar, Taxes are already accounted for. Wifey says that vacation time is more important this year, since me being in the hospital this last summer screwed up the vacation time. I am 1/3 of the way to where I need to be, fund wise! Then it will be leaps and bounds again! Matt -

Anderson, I had to post something! It's been hard enough to not have time to get out in the garage. I'm working up some "funding" for moving along with my project . I need to get the seats moving along to completion. So, I guess that's my next move as I shouldn't have to spend anything to get moving! Matt -

My convertible top bow is finished and should be shipping back to me on Tuesday. Still slowly organizing the garage. Putting away extra parts, organizing junk and getting things a little more orderly so I can move around and get back in the groove. It's always hard when this time of year comes around. No motivation. Matt -

1947 Cadillac convertible
jackofalltrades70 replied to Jeff Trahan's topic in Automobiles and Parts - Buy/Sell
Nahart, Good luck in your search for the seat frames, etc. As I am restoring a 47 Buick convertible, finding anything in even shabby condition to start making a pattern might be next to impossible. Door panels might be able to help you with patterns if they caddy 62 is the same as Buick RM convertible. I would only be able to help with a pattern for the pressboard. Matt -
That's funny crap right there! I don't care who you are.....

Cadillac Buick Convertible HT 1948 1949 Quarter Window Frames Buick 1949 Only | eBay This is the listing on one of his quarter window frames that are repops. I'm not sure if these are for 42-48 Buick or not. He listed it as 48-49. While the 48 should be the same as 46 and 47, just don't want anyone rushing out and buying this without checking with him first. He just re-listed them today. Matt

Most frequently asked question about your "old car"?
jackofalltrades70 replied to a topic in General Discussion
Might seem funny, but the things I've heard, since I've still got mine in pieces, are: Are you ever gonna get that back together and running? Are you ever gonna finish before you die? Are you gonna be able to afford to finish it? I gotta get back in the garage soon. -
Straigt eight and pirate. I have been looking and trying to find who makes the re-pops on the window frames, but haven't had any luck yet. As for the rest of the exterior parts, etc. I purchased quite a bit from this gentleman. Quite a bit was in really bad shape because the car had been rolled. Matt
