  1. This is a note I got from a V8Buick.com member. He went to the Mecum auction in Texas last week;
  2. Aired up the tires and, topped off the fuel
  3. That's a variation I haven't seen before. I don't think they are later. Don't ALL the later years have an oil filler? Or a PCV connection? I would place the decal on the center where the indentation would be Very Nice Paul!! That looks great! Where did you get the heater/defrost duct tubing? I have to point out however the power steering pulley should not be painted black (nor should it be painted green, as mine). Notice Joe's (Packik) photo, the power steering pulley . That zinc plating on Joe's is the correct finish. Parts that should be zinc plated power steering pulley water pump pulley, fan spacer and fan generator pulley/fan hood latch assembly (upper and lower) crank pulley I'm don't know what the correct finish for the A/C compressor is. I would guess, those probably came to Buick already finished. The A/C pulley probably (another guess) black the same as the compressor. And I notice the correct style battery. Is that a reproduction group60 battery? I've had two of those, in ten years, and had nothing but trouble out of both. Those batteries are not actual group60. They are a much smaller side post battery put into the group60 sized case. Leading to hard starts deeper cycles, thus shortened battery life. When I had the repro; If, the starter had turn more than a few revolutions to get the engine running, I had to boost off a battery pack or another car. the starter was not turning fast enough to get the nailhead running. Not good for the starter either. Those reproductions were the only group 60 I could find. So, I put in a group27 from NAPA. Problem solved!! I can let the Roadmaster sit for a week. And, when it cranks it fires up like it just been run an hour before. The group60 is 13"x6-5/16" x9" The group27 is12-1/2"x6-13/16"x8-7/8" About 1/2" difference in length and width. So, the factory type hold down will fit. The 27 negative post was almost too far for my ground to reach. as it had to go across the top of battery. But, it just made it. A 27F (reverse posts) would put the ground post on the same side as the 60. The positive cable shouldn't have trouble reaching a 27F(reverse) as it comes up to the end of the battery (looking at Joe's photo again, his battery looks like 27 or maybe a 24) My mechanic suggests having the reproduction in place for shows. And, having a better battery for driving (swapping them as necessary). Ours came from Don Drennan Buick, Birmingham. Dad was the second owner.
  4. yep. me, too. I put the decals on the chromed covers. Those covers should be painted and not chrome. So I figured what the heck, I'll dress them up a little more. I've got another set that appears to have the original paint on them. There is no trace of the decal on them.
  5. You sir are correct!! You're absolutely right about '53 Supers and Roadmasters with wire wheels. I got that wrong all the way around!! What I meant to say was the '53 wheels did not have a pilot hole stud. The 6" does NOT have the pilot hole stud Again, you are right to correct me on the 6.5" having pilot hole stud. '54 and later did have a pilot hole stud.
  6. I also posted on Facebook. Five different automobile forums and on my home page. Good luck to you. I hope you get your car back. I would be sick...........
  7. I posted the photo and a link to this thread on the H.A.M.B. and V8Buick.com
  8. Willie is correct. No decals on the late valve covers. I put them on mine anyway. (the chrome is not correct either)
  9. Should it be Cherokee red? I'll congratulate you again on the arrival!!
  10. Try inserting the paper clip in the on position.
  11. Congratulations on your Buick purchase!!
  12. Looks like a 'wolf whistle' on the intake manifold
  13. Gracias! Negra Modelo y Corona es muy bien , Tambien!
  14. Your plan for an under-layment for the jacks is a good idea for safety. Maybe the concrete would do if you used an underlayment for each jack there? My question on the bulbs came up because I was thinking if you had the brake and turn on the same bulb, it might have been too much load. But as you went separate, it makes my idea moot on the reason for overload. Good luck, and keep thinking safe. It's good that even on a budget, safety is in mind.
  15. Filled it up with fuel. 12 gallons at $3.899 + 2 bottles of fuel additive at $4 each wore out a $50 bill The rest of the afternoon, I proceeded to burn up my $53+ investment.
  16. The battery hold down might last all of two weeks
  17. The only problem I have with the original type starter is heat soak. There are three solutions to heat soak; remote (Ford) type solenoid switch, heat shield around the starter, a bigger/better battery. I put a bigger/better battery (replaced the Mickey-Mouse repro 60group with a NAPA 27group) No more heat soak........... I didn't have to go with the other mods. If, I go to show that the correct battery would make a difference, i'll put the repro-Delco 60 in.
  18. Sorry to hear of your transmission trouble. On the lights; Does yours have four bulbs or two for the taillights? (I might be wrong) But, It seems I remember that, '55 was the first year for combined turn/brake signal bulb. That previous years Buicks with turn signals, had 4 dual filament bulbs. Two for braking and two for signals. Maybe????
  19. The glass shop can cut and fit it. It's what has been done to my passenger window 38 years ago. the replacement window is not tinted. All the others are. I don't think anyone but Lamar would notice. here's a photo
