  2. hello everyone as some of you may know ive been working on the restoration of my 1927 moon roadster,my wife has always been a little irritated with me because ive had a 31 devaux sports coupe in storage since 1970,and she thought I should restore it first of the 3 cars,on august first my wife of 46 years passed away,my one daughjter said I should put the moon away and do the devaux instead,i told her I cant stop on a project once I start, now I lay awake at knight by myself wondering if it would be a tribute to my wife, she always wanted the first ride when the devaux was finished the moon she could of cared less about, now im wondering what to do ,all advise appreciated dave
  3. just thought id let everyone know the scammers are out and about,i received a e mail supposedly from paypal about a pending purchase well I haven't made a recent purchase using paypal, then they wanted all my info when I declined, home address social security number etc,i didn't feel good so I had my daughter look at it my daughter look it over and it wasn't even from paypal they where just using the paypal logo,so watch out guys the economy isn't doing great so the scammers are having to think up new ways to steal from those of us that do work, dave

  9. Now that you explained it it makes better sense,I guess in my last life I must have been a steam engine mechanic,if the rods pistons etc are lightened will you have to take weight off the flywheel or will it be ok as is,still watching and still learning. Dave
  10. Hello Jv,I have a question with all the aluminum being used won't you need the weight for torque in the motor will the aluminum rods pistons gears etc be really light or is that what your going for,by the way phenomenal workmanship, Dave

  13. if your making fenders I see no reason to have and English wheel, there great for fabbing compound curves and for rolling out the dents when forming the metal,i believe youd do better with a good bead roller, theres plenty of them out there new and used,i have a friend who builds bodies fenders any thing in sheetmetal,he says 90 percent of the time its all done on a bead roller with different dies his is a heavy duty one but gets super results, I bought a mitler bros about 7 years ago a power feed a little pricy but does great work, before you spend your hard earned money on a english wheel chk out a good bead roller I believe theres videos online, dave
  14. beautiful work, keep it coming im learning everyday, dave
  15. hello frank I think that the head is actually being held on by the broken studs, sometimes they twist and gett stuck in the holes when they brake,i know you've probable already checked, but if the bolts ate 3/8 bolts I would try and center punch them as close to center as possible measure how far down the bolts are and try and step drill them starting with 1/8 and moving up slowly to 3/8 or 7/17 what ever they are, if you could leave some pressure on it as your drilling the studs it may help to free them, also if you have a reversible drill and some lt hand drill bits it may help, dave
  16. I bought my 32 devaux from a sale in Indiana I live in calif,a good friend of mine has a brother in Illinois long story short he was looking for an excuse to buy a muscle car from calif, hooked him up with my old stage one Buick he picked the devaux up in Indiana brought in to my door step 3 days later I paid for fuel and eats. Dave
  17. Hello frank I know your a balls out guy but don't worry about the lasalle or the Nash take care of yourself, there's going to be a lot of tomorrows for you, listen to the doctors first and your body second, you'll know when it's time to go full blast,in the mean time good to have you back looking forward to your knowledge and. Your fiery spirit, Dave
  18. I don't think. It's the cars that are not affordable I believe it's the repairs or restore that's gone out of sight, you used to be able to get chrome donereasonable but the cost now is astronomical thanks to the EPA,when I first started painting you could buy a gallon of lacquerpaintfor45.00.anda5 gallon an of lacquer thinner for 30.00 now a gallon of quality paint is in the 400.00 range and the hardened and reducer is extra, unless you use single stage but most single stages have poor juvenile ratings, Dave
  19. Frank please keep fighting and you'll get better your posts give all reasons to work on are projects and the knowledge you share always helps someone,I know it doesn't need saying but if you need anything just ask,. Dave
  20. You might also check tow yards that have been in business a long time they always have a so called keeper out back,a friend of mine is a tow driver that travels the western states picking up theft recoveries,he said there's a yard called crossroads towing in northern Idaho that has a lot of cars but says they have to lots so make them show you the one with the old stuff I just found there card3508 Hoffman lane Nampo Idaho might be worth going out of your way,. Dave
  21. I hope. It's nothing serious, probably either mal nutrition or dehydration,I to noticed his posts being a little erratic lately, but being in California I didn't know what to do without invading his privacy,I'm glad for this site and people that where able to help,is anyone able to notify his son,. Dave
  22. A couple of questions, are you going to cut the gears on the horizontal mill or on a metal shaper, can you take some pics of the process, cutting gears has always intrigued me I just don't have the experience or equips to do it,will you be using a dividing head dave
  23. From time to time lots of folks need machine work done,I'll bet watching these threads is a real eye opener why machine shops charge what they do, I think your work is first class and I bet the restoration will reflect it,. Dave
  24. They used to sell a tool for aligning doors with external hinges,it was just apiece of wire with about a 1 1//2 inch pieces of round stock aluminum about 2 inches long on one end and a piece of 1inch round stock about 2 inches long on the other,a word of caution here once the sheet metal I properly aligned put the. Grille she'll and hood on some times the cowl at the lower sill will need adjusted and that will throw the door gaps off, some times a real bear,I've just started the wood work on my moon roadster when I started I had brown wavy hair now what's left is gray, good luck I'm rooting for you. Dave
  25. Hello in the first picture it shows the classic on the trailer ifs there a body or are you going to build a speedster. Dave
