Guest BruceW
I attached a map to TGI-Fridays in case anyone wants to consider the idea. Maybe someone going through the area can check it out to see if they are open for lunch and make sure it hasnt been sold or closed.

Dave@Moon
Bruce,It's very doubtful that I'll be able to attend, however....Some years ago my wife worked within a block or so of that TGI Fridays, so I'm very familiar with the area. Trying to get a table there for a large munber of people would normally be a very tall order on a Friday at noon. Is this lunch customarily on Friday or Saturday?
Guest BruceW
Dave,Thanks for your comments. The DFer lunch has always been on Friday. I'm sure someone would have to call ahead of time such as Peter always does with St. George's. It may be worth a call to see if we could reserve some tables. Just thought it may be a possible option. Peter J.Heizmann
Hi, Sal...My favorite is the Sanson Street Oyster House (if you like really fresh seafood).I agree that the Original Bookbinders closing was a shock to the region.Peter J.

Guest SalG (Sal Grenci)
PeterJ, I will get the info in one of those tourist mags in the room. Living on Long Island spoils one with sea food, my favorite thing is to go out into the bay and jump in and dig clams w/ my feet. Dave@, I have never been to any of those famous cheese steak places, I intend to try this year.
Peter J.Heizmann
Folks, I am going to incorporate the ideas of Fran Shore, Dave@Moon, and, Bruce Wheeler's into a "menu of choice", if you will, of their good ideas. Please give me a day or so to make some phone calls and I will get back...We could then take a vote on their suggestions as to a replacement for St. George's...Regards, Peter J.
ronbarn
HELP! Are you talking about the Bookbinders right downtown. You walk out the back of the Wyndham and about eight blocks, past the courthouse (or whatever), on a narrow street across from a parking garage - is that the one that closed? When? That's the only reason we go up early. Please tell me that is not the one that closed.
Peter J.Heizmann
Ron...The Original Bookbinder's on Walnut St. is open. Dave@Moon
The Old Original Bookbinders at 125 Walnut St. is still there (as far as I can tell from here) (see restraunt and food product web page) . The Bookbinders 15th Street Seafood at 215 S. 15th St. is no more. These links got messed up somehow. They're corrected now.
Guest SalG (Sal Grenci)
The info Dave linked to is confusing. I have a book of matches in front of me from the one on Walnut, it says "The world famous restaurant down by the river". That is the one owned by the Taxin family, the one where Sandy Taxin would come by and give you her business card when she asked how everthing was. It was the one with all the photos (100's) of famus people who ate there. It went out of business two years ago. (It is the one in the link w/ the exterior photo) I just called the number on the matches, 215-925-7027 and a message says that they are reopening in the summer of 2004. I have been to the one on 15th Street the past two years. (the one with the inside photo in the link). I called the phone number on the web listing, 215-545-1137 and it is disconnected. That leaves us 0 for 2 on Bookbinder's and 0 for 1 on St. George's.

Guest
Peter ~ You better call the Walnut St number before you go there. Or better yet, have Ccar go by there when he is Philadelphia this week. I read in the paper last summer that the uptown Bookbinders has closed. The one near the waterfront closed many years ago.Ron ~ Don't go up early for dinner without finding out for sure it still exists. I don't think any of us really know for sure the status of the last remaining Bookbinders. Web sites, and phone numbers be damned. Somebody near or in Philadelphia had better go the the front door and find out the REAL story. But of course that is just my opinion. It means nothing to me since I'm not going to the Annual Meeting this year, and by the time that is over we will all know for sure, now won't we.By the way, I am very willing to be wrong on this. In fact I would love to be wrong. Please, someone really check it out. ~ hvs

R W Burgess
I see it's been a couple of days since Pedro posted. I hope we have something resolved before the week of Philly. I am planning on making a sign for the registration desk to inform those interested where we will be meeting this year. A couple of people last year missed out because they didn't know about it. Any news or ideas anybody? Wayne
Peter J.Heizmann
Wayne...Here are the suggestions, so far:1. Elephant & Castle2. TGI Friday's3. Box Lunch in the quiet corner of the lobby. (We really have only about 50 minutes for lunch due to everyone going back for 1:00 Seminars, so, whatever you folks opt to do, it cannot be a 2 hour lunch)Regards, Peter J.
R W Burgess
Thanks Pedro, Sounds like you have plenty of options. The time available might be a factor. Just my opinion here, but the lobby sounds like the best option to me. The available box lunches could be brought with the members to that lobby area with the "statue" (They weren't Southerners, so I can't remember their names!) That would give us all more time to reminisce. Wayne
Guest BruceW
Wayne. Some considerations about the lobby.... There are no chairs and tables in the lobby where the statue is located. There needs to be a place for 20+ people to sit down to eat or else everyone will have to stand up for 50 minutes while eating.
John N. Packard
Why not take the back corner of one of the conference rooms, since we will be between sessions?jnp
24T42
I think the box lunch might be your best option. If you look closely at the preliminary schedule you only have about a half hour for lunch. The publications seminar gets out at 12:15 (and I know you don't want to miss that) and Peter does a seminar at 12:45 on the antique automobile and the Internet.Of course, the beverage of choice with a box lunch is a soda (ie - non-alcoholic)
Guest BruceW
No matter where the DF lunch is held....with the lunch time on Friday cut considerably shorter this year, would it be more convenient to move the DFer lunch to Saturday? Just a thought.
Rick Lay
Peter - I would also like to join the DF'ers for lunch.
Guest
I know this is none of my business since I won't be there, but Bruce's idea of Saturday makes sense considering the number of participants you seem to be collecting. A less hurried time period might bring in even more DFers.I haven't seen the schedule, but isn't the General Meeting held after lunch on Friday? If that is the case you really can't be late going into that, but if you are a little late getting into a seminar on Saturday, does it really matter?Just my unsoloicited 2 cents.Howard
R W Burgess
Hey guys, I think Judy has the solution to the problem. The Publications Seminar and PeterG's Seminar is on the same Mezz. Level. Seems to me we could all congregate in the Seminar Room for Peter's program and mingle until Peter begins. Wouldn't have to go anywhere, would already be there. All we'd need to do is find a place for our trash. What do you think? Wayne
JanK
Just who you calling trash? Seriously, I think Judy's idea is great. I hope the box lunches are close by.Jan K.Wis Region
Dave@Moon
You may want to check with the Wyndham Hotel to make sure they permit eating in the conference rooms. (I've found that just because hotels may provide coffee and donuts for seminars, it doesn't mean that they'll allow an organized meal [they didn't cater] in the same room.) Then again, it's also often easier to say "I'm sorry" than "Please".
Peter J.Heizmann
Folks, the Box Lunch concept is fine with me.For "new" people, Box Lunches are sold at the Mezzanine lobby just outside of all the seminar meeting rooms...you pay the attendants for whatever you purchased. The tally as of today, 1/31/04 is listed below. It is open ended, in that, anyone wishing to join us, please do...Thought the list below may assist you to identify/greet people. (I know what it is like walking into a room and not knowing who-is-who.) There will also be a "sign-in" book in the room, of which, may further help you.
