A Fall Sunday in Hershey....

Got up this morning to meet two bus loads of AACA'ers at the Museum, we had one guest who had a serious load of trophies to pick-up. Real neat to see so many club members excited about touring the Museum.

Went over to Chocolate World to pick out a gift for a friend and watched the local SCCA club running time trials in the Chocolate Field parking lot. Music to my ears.

Drove to headquarters and saw a '57 Chevrolet, T-Bird and an older cadillac driving down the road. It IS a beautiful Fall day here!

I am now blissfully at peace on such a pretty day, thinking about how much joy this hobby has given the people I saw this morning. The racers, too! What a great world!

Fired-up the computer at work and CRASH! My world comes tumbling down. Read a threatening email from a DF'er about the site. I do enjoy the banter, I do enjoy the rants section and I think some pretty interested things get posted. Many not about the hobby but hopefully we all have other interest in life as well. AACA does not HAVE to have a website, nor does anyone force someone to be a participant. Those that do, should enjoy the site, have fun and/or be serious as warranted. If you have a gripe or criticism, air it respectfully. Remember as well, this is AACA's site and AACA has to monitor and moderate it within the confines of the best interest of the club.

I also checked some records this morning and found out that some DF'ers on the AACA site are not currently members. frown.gif Tell me what we have to do to convince you to join! We need you, and if their is something we are not doing to earn your membership, call me, write me, email me or yell at me! Thanks for listening!

Good day here too in South Central Florida. Attended an Olds Club of Florida sponsored Meet in Kissimmee yesterday, driving a '48 Buick. But it was a BOP&C Show, so the Buick blended right in. Stopped at a Cruise-in in Winter Haven on the way home, and the meal at the Perkins Restaurant there was good too. Met people from Auburndale and Lakeland who had never heard of AACA, but had old cars, one a '38 Pontiac, the other a '53 Buick. I gave them an earfull about what a great club it is and what it has to offer. It always amazes me when somebody in old cars hasn't heard of AACA after 68 years. Whatcha think about that Steve? Washed the car today, as it was really a nice day here, not hot, but sunny and breezy. Sure hate to go to the cold northland for six days this week, but the cool will kill any allergies I guess. Last week I was told of what may be a rebirth of new and added AACA interest by the local club here, so I was moved to donate three pages of newsletter to help out whoever will step up to be newsletter editor. Worked it up on publisher, header and all. Yep, we're lucky to have this wonderful hobby. Too bad there even are any complainers. And too, those members of AACA who had a nice day, enjoy, because remember that beats all the other options.

Dyna, glad you had a sunny day....here it is raining as usual, just like last sunday. This is the start of a very long winter. It's the time of the year when I wished I was back in Daytona........

Steve, Thanks for the update on Hershey activity. I am glad to see you are settling in to the new job. Here on long Island it rained on and off all day. Good day to sleep in late, catch up on reading and watch a little football. Sal

P.S. Is there going to be a big send off party to WHS?

Glad everyone had a good day. I got to get up at 6:00 am drive my daughter 680 miles to pick up "free" furnature from her older brother. Burned about $35.00 worth of gas and can't charge a soul for the freight bill. And I get to go out early tomorrow morning, you retired people are so lucky. Sal ~ I think the send off party was part of the President's reception on Friday night at Hershey this year. I understand that a large part of the $25 "entry fee" was to give WHS a big send off.

Steve,

I bought a '38 Buick about 5 years ago; it has always been a trailer queen since that time. But today was my day to finally drive my car to a show, which was about 25 miles from my home. I mentioned to my husband several weeks ago that I really wanted to drive the car and thanks to him, it was ready for me to drive today.

I must admit, I was a bit nervous between the traffic and the stop lights. The brakes are not the greatest and I found myself just about in the middle of an intersection when trying to stop. The car is like trying to navigate a pumpkin down the road. Of course, I had my husband critiquing every move - make sure the clutch is all the way; don't shift too fast; slow down well in advance of the lights; listen to the engine - don't drive too fast, etc. I managed to get us there in one piece and enjoyed the drive inspite of all the comments.

My vehicle was chosen to be part of a local television show on old cars in the Tampa Bay area. I had an opportunity to talk about AACA and the important role it plays in the hobby. Yes it was a fun day!

Ok, now I am more depressed! All you folks are out there enjoying your cars while mine are back in Indiana! grin.gif Just kidding, but the day was so great yesterday it would have been fun to ride around in the convertible and see the countryside.

Janet and Earl, thanks for the doing your part in promoting AACA. I do not think the average member realizes the time and effort our Directors put in for the benefit of the club.

You are right Earl, it is really amazing how many people in the Hobby really are not aware of AACA. I hope that changes in the future.

Our Sunday was spent as day three of our Region's Fall Run. Di, me and the girls drove our 31 Ford on our region's 3 day tour to Gettysburg, Pa. that started early Friday morning and concluded with the final dinner in New Freedom, Pa on Sunday evening. It was a great weekend.

Steve,

Just to add to your pain a bit...

I FINALLY received my NEW ANTIQUE CAR!

1948 Chrysler Town and Country Convertible!

Spend the weekend cleaning off 15 years of storage rash. And actually found a wonderful car underneath!

Even drove it around the block a few times!

Pictures to follow.

Peter

P.S. 85 and sunny here in Tucson - I guess it's fall now.

Claire, when we were living in Daytona, there was a rib place called Dustin's. My wife & I ate there often. Although Rhode Island is noted for it's fine restaurants, we haven't found a rib place yet as good as Dustin's. Whenever we visit Daytona, that is the first place we hit......

48Coupe, Turkey Rod Run sounds good right about now!! smile.gif

Peter, just keep heaping it on! You are just another guy I am jealous of, sounds like a great find. I tired to buy 3 cars during Hershey week. One I missed by 5 minutes ('37 Olds convert), the other ('09 Olds) was bought by someone else while I tried to find a 30's Olds at Hershey, and the other was at auction which I missed! This new job is going to be real tough on my hobby!

My cars will get here someday, and I will be able to write a happier story. However, i can just see the smiles on many of you as you posted about your weekend. To paraphrase a friend of mine, "is this a great hobby, or what?" grin.gif

CTW: There is no AACA Region in Lakeland, or Winter Haven for that matter, but there is a Sonny's BBQ at Lake Wales, right on Route 27 and that's about 35 miles from here. The local Sebring cruise-in is at Woody's BBQ though. I don't like either one of them, nor Fat Boy's either. They slice the meat. I like mine diced or pulled. Now Red, Hot & Blue up in Maryland...ummmboy, now you're talkin' BBQ tongue.gif

Earl ~ I know a great BBQ shack, and I do mean shack, in Ft. Pierce. cool.gif If you are ever going over that way I will give you directions. Can't remember the name but I know how to get there from the Turnpike. Been there a lot ~ hvs
