Hemmings and the buggy whip were both very useful in their time. I found my first Model T in Hemmings years ago and would look forward to every issue. The internet is the way to buy and sell today, but I'll always remember Hemmings as part of the "Golden Age" of the old car hobby.

I still enjoy reading and subscribing to Hemmings. If you haven't looked at it lately it has some cool new features. One of my favorites is the new auction section which gives the results of recent auctions (Kruse Denver Auction this month). It shows pictures of the cars auctioned and a short description with some insightful comments about the car and if it was a good deal. It also has Collector Car Profiles on several cars (1965 Chrysler 300, 1959 Oldsmobile convertible and 1946 Marmon-Herrington Ford wagon this month). Another feature is Parts Locator articles. Why not take a look, you may like it!

i'm going to tell you a dirty secret.....

I do read most of the magizines I get now.

CLC, BCA, AACA... I flip through the thing and then throw it on the pile. I look at the pictures.

The AACA, I only get because I'm in the club.

I'd rather read the internet post, then the articles in the rags.

Hemmings, makes my head swim. I want all those cars

It's to much for a junky like me!

I like all the vendors that are in that thing. You can get some good deals if you shop around. It'd be nice if the photo ads were in color but I'm afraid that each issue would cost 12 bucks or something.

Hemmings has been a good source for me. Once in a while I find odd parts through them that I cannot narrow down in a search on the Web. Search engines are only as good as the programmers who write them. However I will admit to having a wee bit of bother in searching through Hemmings for what I want. I have learned to do it by make, and then item name which seems to work tolerably well. Hemmings.com, is another matter entirely. I do not know what the problem is with me, but I simply cannot figure out how to use their search engine or how the criteria is formatted. I feel like a novice. Has anyone else had that experience?

The last two issues of Hemmings have no page or column headings, either. So you open the book and have to search back or forward a few pages to even find what section you are in before you can even start to find what you're looking for. Why someone thought this was better than putting section headings on every page, I'll never know. But it sure has made the book a pain in the neck to use.

Perhaps they're trying to drive people to their website, which is trying to drive people to the book. Ultimately, they may just drive themselves out of business. The new editor has some good ideas and some not-so-good ideas, one of which is what I mentioned above, and the other is the web site. Most magazines aer paid for by advertisers, not subscribers (go to Ebay and find out how much a subscription to Car and Driver costs--I got mine for $4.00 a year). Because of this, Hemmings should keep their site open so that potential advertisers will get more bang for their buck and be more inclined to come back again.

Or maybe I'm the stupid one. I don't know...

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. I hate the layout. You're right, you literally have to dig through it to find something, where before stuff was a lot easier to find. I intend on raising this issue with these folks at Hershey. Hemmings is still a good thing, but there are some changes made that were not for the good.

I just noticed on page 81 in the November issue, I just received, there is an explanation on the missing section headings etc. They have a new software and are having problems that they still are working on. It should be easier to find specific makes. I hope it will make using Hemmings easier in the future.
