What was my truck?

In 1972, I had a 1950s Dodge pickup (not sure of the year) The hood opened from both sides. Transmission was BOTH/EITHER manual on the column, or automatic. If I didn’t shift manually, it shifted automatically. I found one mechanic who had heard of them, but had never seen one. Is this familiar to anyone?

The 1953 transmission was referred to as a Truck-O-Matic  and offered a blend of manual and automatic features.

The driver only needed to engage high range and could drive all day without manually shifting gears.

Some adverts claim it was available in 1/2 and 3/4 ton.
