1948 Chevy fleetline - $42,000

Looks like a nice example if the price were right (it's sure not) and the lowering was easily reversible. 

located in Manteca. I've always wondered what the Spanish were thinking when the named it (manteca is an important cooking ingredient: lard). Turns out they didn't name it. The early settlers named it Monteca but when then railroad came through, they miss spelled it on the schedule and it stuck!

HIJACK ALERT -----

 

I had family members living in and near Manteca from the 1930's on, refugees of the depression.

We visited them quite often through the '50's and '60's. One thing the internet articles don't seem to mention much were the beef feedlots owned by the H. Moffat Company (business headquarters, San Francisco). 

As we passed through Manteca, the "aroma" of thousands of cattle and mountains of manure were both overwhelming and unforgettable. I understand they were fed sugar beet tops which were a byproduct of the Spreckels Sugar company with many sugar refineries in California.

To bring this back around to old cars, Here is a picture of Claus Spreckles' mansion in San Francisco. probably 1920 or before, from the appearance of the cars.

The Aroma of Manteca endures. At least it did the last time I drove through it.

You could be wearing blindfold and know that you were approaching the intersection of highways 120 and 99.

Not as strong as a drive-by of Harris Ranch on I-5, though. That'll make your eyes water.

Very a beautiful car from front to back, inside and out. That said, when you restore a car there is a ceiling as to what the car is worth. The time to determine that value is when restoration starts. Don't throw 40k at a 20k car and expect someone to pay for your cost over runs. GLWTS

Someone is trying to recoup the they had put into it but doesn't understand the principals of the open market.  The car will bring what the market bares.  What does he have, a 25 to 30k car? He's asking $42, where does he think the other 12k is going to come from?  What Kingrudy is saying is spot on.  Now if you're gong to keep the car then spending the money is for your love of the car. Moreover compare the Chevy with other GM fastbacks and you can get a real nice Pontiac or Buick and both would have a straight 8.

I'm sure the seller didn't expect the car to end up on the AACA website.

To another low 'n slow enthusiast, it's probably worth the money, as the builder likely has more than twice the asking price in it.

To their credit, the builders of these cars restore them (in the loosest sense) and add a bunch of accessories rather than cut them up like the hot rodders.

It's all reversible.
