You sent me down the rabbit hole of Google, but I'm happy to report that I learned something factual - Ian Fleming of James Bond fame was the author of the book!  So a series of 3 cars led to a book that led to a movie.

In fact Ian Fleming was racing driver Donald Healey's co-pilot on the 1932 Alpine Trial

In one of the recent posts relative to an Itala, it was mentioned that the photo had been from the collection of UKs late Tim Harding, author and auto historian. I just happened to be going through one of his books on another subject and came across this which may enhance the subject.
