Leif in Calif
Not the color I would pick but it sure looks like a well cared for and usable example! (much more info and pics in ad) https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/grass-valley-1951-packard-200/7689481733.html Starts up and runs well. Does not over heat on a hot day. I have driven it from Grass Valley to Tahoe over old route 40 and back several times. Doors don’t sag when opened. All windows work. All lights and turn signals work. The floor boards were replaced before I got it. Brakes work well and Emergancy brake too. Heater blower works. Tires are old but fairly new and I have driven on them. Does not smoke or burn oil. All badges and logos are on car. Has a Mafia approved three body trunk. Jim Skelly
the bodies also have to be removed from the trunk 🙄
58L-Y8
The model 2492 is the most basic 200 standard trim level Packard offered for 1951. The engine is the 288 ci which with the manual shift is a nice combination but could use an overdrive to make it even better.
Leif in Calif
New ad: https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/grass-valley-1951-packard-200/7787491202.html 1951 Packard 200 four door sedan Rebuild Thunderbolt straight 8 engine with 2000 miles since rebuild in 1989. Car was owned by a couple in Oregon who rebuilt motor, interior, and paint. They had it in their office show room for years then it was stored in a barn for some time. I traded for it 6 years ago and have done the following work. 1. Removed and sealed gas tank 2. Tore down and cleaned carburetor 3. Installed new bushings in the front anti sway Bar 4. New rebuilt starter 5. New rebuilt voltage regulator 6. Replace transmission with used unit 7. New clutch and pressure plate 8. New rebuilt brake master cylinder 9. Replaced rubber flex lines to brakes 10. Serviced as needed oil/lube 11. New 6 volt battery 12. Adjusted valves 13. New fuel/vacuum pump Starts up and runs well. Cons: second gear synchro is weak. Radio does not work and auto rise antenna does not extend. Someone scratched the paint on the trunk. Trunk stay doesn’t work. There is some surface rust coming through paint and chrome. I have not driven it much the last four years, but have started and completely warmed it every couple of months. It has been in my garage since I have owned it. Hate to let her go but my life is changing. This car could be made very nice or with just a little of this and that to make a dependable survivor. The year of manufacture plates are extra. I paid $1000 for them years ago. 1951/52/53 plates are somewhat rare. (530) 362-0620
JACK M
Sounds like it has a replaced transmission that has problems.
