1938 Cadillac Lasalle coupe - $15,000

Recommended Posts

Looks like a sound example of a great car, but the price seems very high....(probably a little high even if it could run and drive).

Really nice style for LaSalle. Unfortunately in this condition, as stated, it would cost several dollars just to make it drivable. If you went the full restoration you would be digging a deep hole for yourself. This is too bad because I could see a beautiful car when all is done. It would have to be a labor of love.

GM tried to make the '38 LaSalles look more like a Cadillac (widening the grill, removing the chevrons from the fenders) before reverting to the narrow-grill LaSalle look in 1939.

Additionally, GM introduced a new interior plastic that didn't didn't age well.

Consequently, '38's don't seem to sell for the money the earlier and later LaSalles do.

Pluses: it's a coupe. Minuses: everything else.

Agree that even if it was running, $15K is still too rich.

How can an owner not know that his LaSalle is

not a "Cadillac LaSalle?"

Maybe it's parked in his garage next to his

Oakland Pontiac and his Honda Acura!

To be fair,  GM advertised LaSalle as being part of the Cadillac "family". Even when it had the Oldsmobile-derived straight 8 in the mid-30's.

That's how I describe it when I get quizzical looks at the gas station about my '37.

From the looks of this car, I'm guessing the seller doesn't know much about the marque.
