rocketraider
Big. Fast. Sexy. Ten years or more ago, I watched a black/red 64 XL Town Victoria being unloaded at a Fall Carlisle. First thing that caught my eye was the TASCA Ford dealer badge on the tail panel. As it continued to ooze out of its enclosed trailer, the 427 engine callouts appeared. Looking inside, there was a four-speed shifter poking out of its console. And suddenly that TASCA badge made a whole lot of sense.
EmTee
Were buckets & console available from the factory with the 4DHT, or added by the owner? Looks good in any case.

I've admired these cars from the time that they came out. I believe that the XL package includes the bucket seats and the appropriate badging on the glove box, rear(right side near tail light) and on the front fenders. I have seen many XLs, but never with a bench seat.
TexRiv_63
The 4 door XL like this was a factory model, one of my favorite Fords. XL package included buckets, console, floor shift, special door panels, pedal trim, and exterior emblems. I love the 4 door fastback styling. 1

I have seen many XLs, but never with a bench seat. The Ford Galaxie XL was the bucket seat version of the Galaxie 500 (bench seat model). produced starting 1962, it included the buckets up front, and bucket design in the back seat. 2 door & convertible in 1962, 2 door, 4 door and convertible in 1963 & 64 then 2 door and convertible 1967 to 1970, but starting in 1968 the buckets and floor shift was itself an option in the XL model. (yeah real confusing) But for the choice years of 62-67, Floor shift and console was standard. However if you choose the swing away steering wheel option (like the Thunderbird. Available 1963 to 1965 and very rare) then the shift was necessitated to the column. The console plate did not allow any space or hole for the shifter. Most people have never seen one of these plates. But unlike some cars where installing bucket seats were the only change, on Ford XLs 1962 to 1966 they had unique door panels! The 1964 was the grandest of all. Note the deep sculpturing and three dimensional detailing. These are not just flat boards! How many times I have seen people add buckets to a bench seat car and leave out all the many, many unique parts that make Ford XLs so special. Then they try to sell the idea that their car is "totally original". And the car is usually for sale and at a high price. They dont know, and they think they can fool somebody else.
58L-Y8
These one-year-only Galaxie 500XL four door fastback hardtops as well as the Mercurys that shared this body are among the most desirable full-sized FoMoCo cars for that year.
