Y'all can even get diecast models that we can't get here in US. ☹

Sebastien, what age did you get interested in cars? And who influenced you to become a car guy?

That is to say ? :)

I have been interested in cars since I was little.
I was still in elementary school (5 years old) having fun repairing small toy cars.
And when I was 4 or 5 years old, I went to see car shows with my parents, and I also went to see car races at the Nogaro and Albi circuit.
Then when I was 12 I got my camera and started taking pictures of cars.
In France we have a driving license at 18 years old, and for my 18th birthday I bought my 1969 Buick Electra 225 ! :)
I am now 27 years old, and I have 3 American cars :) , and I still do a lot of pictures of cars in exhibitions  :)

Thank you again for all these photos. What is shocking to me as an American is how limited our car selection is compared to what I see when I travel to Europe, so many “cars” all of all types in Europe and a few…just a handful of SUV’s compared to us in the states, seems only a handful of manufacture’s here make cars, all trucks and SUV’s. Really kinda of disappointing to me, why Europe has such a GIANT selection of vehicles and car makers and we are down to a handful….I don’t understand why?

Yes it is true that in Europe we have a lot of car models, here where I live in the south of France there are a lot of French cars, it is not uncommon to see 4 Peugeot 308 in a parking lot parked next to it with 2 Renault Twingo for example.
Then there are German cars, Spanish cars (Seat), Italian cars, ..., and American cars (I don't know if they are Real American cars, or if they are for Europe) but on the road you can cross Chrysler PT Cruiser, Chrysler 300C, Doge Ram (rarely), Ford Courrier, Ford Mondeo, Ford C-Max, and my father just bought a Ford Transit 2018 for work.
On the other hand here in France there is no Buick regal 2010 (I wanted to buy a 2012 Buick Regal GS but there is none in France :( ), there is no Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram 3500, Dodge Dakota, Ford Crown Victoria, Chevy van, Mercury grand marquis, Lincoln 2010's, Ford F350, Dodge Neon, as well as other Buick models, ...
It's a shame we can't find this in France, if you want one you have to import it :(
I went on vacation twice to America and I was amazed to see all these American cars !
Normally I go on vacation to America this summer 2022 ! :)

I rode as a passenger in the back of my mom's 1969 Buick Electra 225 4 door.

Mom had a '53 Buick, then traded it for the '69 Electra, then traded that for a '76 2 door Buick Electra. Mom's last car was a 1985 Buick Regal.

Oh good ! :) , it's a very nice Buick skewer that your mom had ! :)
Do you have pictures of the Electra 69 ? :) , or annecdotes ?

My aunt always drove big buicks. Around 1970/71 she had just bought a new Electra. Big 4 door sedan. She had brought it to our house to show it off. My cousin and myself were playing around in it. I was in the back seat and pushed down on the funny gadget under the little chrome door on the door panel. When it popped out glowing red I had no idea what it was about. Perfect size for my 6 year old finger to fit into. BOTH times I have ever touched the inside of a cigarette lighter!

You're bad luck with your finger  , I think you haven't started pressing that gadget again that I didn't know it was . It is because the cigarette lighter works well :D.
Thanks for the little story, it's great ! ;)

His parents MUST have been non-smokers, not to know what it was for. (Not that it was a bad thing. I would have preferred a burnt finger once in my life over wretched cigarette smoke in a confined area in my formative years.)   My mom & dad used the lighter every time they drove their car, so I knew not to touch it after it popped out.

Only dad smoked. I probably saw him using the lighters in the cars, just didn't know what they were all about. I quickly found out though!

In my early years, my dad only drove base, or near base model company cars, none of which had cigar lighters in the rear seat area, only an ashtray or two.  The only car I remember at the time with rear cigar lighters was a friend of mine's mom's 1959 Electra 225 that had two lighters that faced to the rear, one on each end of the front seat trim.

Ahah yes it is on that leaves memories, and we learn what it is for :D .
On my 1969 Buick Electra there are also cigar lighters, like the one from Aunt a TAKerry :) .
I really like the Electra 59, they are superb .
In France there are many people who say that American cars are spaceships so much that there are options and technological invention , night detector to put the headlights on Cadillac, Buick, Imperial, .. .end 50's, heated seats on the Buick 55, electric window, electric bench, radio, telescopic antenna, rear window demisting system, assisted steering, very comfortable, powerful, very very beautiful, very nice finish inside, clock, cigarette lighter, automatic convertible top, ...
It's amazing the number of options that American cars have, the list goes on ! :)

I like the Saviem SC-10(?)

The City of Montreal had one for a test unit, circa 1965, along with two other European-sourced city transit buses, including a M.A.N 750 from Germany, and a Leyland Olympic from the UK for evaluation.  The Montreal Saviem didn't have an open rear compartment like the one in your photo.

The Mercedes Benz 600 came very close for comfort options.  About the only items the 600 didn't have over the US luxury makes were power vent windows, and maybe heated seats, unless the 600 got them later on in the 1970's.  Keep in mind Daimler-Benz would have made almost anything available on a 600 if a buyer had requested it.

As far as I know, there was just the one SC 10 running around in Montreal, along with the single M.A.N. and Leyland bus.  Saviem made some interesting commercial vehicles, including one-man-cab steel-hauler trucks,  I've only seen a scale model of one that is a Saviem:

I posted photos of a 1941 Sterling and a 1992 International steel-hauler truck here: https://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/forum/your-studebaker-forum/stove-huggers-the-non-studebaker-forum/52444-orphan-of-the-day-05-11-1941-sterling-steel-hauler

My favorite old car events are one-and two-cylinder tours with the Horseless Carriage Club and the Vintage Motor Car Club.  I would love to show up on such a tour with that Sizaire et Naudin.  It would show all the other guys what a single-cylinder car could do.

I used to be an active private pilot in small planes and gliders.  The little airplane in the exhibit was a French design called the Pou du Ciel.  In the States we called it the Flying Flea, although I believe the correct translation from the French is Sky Louse.  It was a controversial design with two staggered wings and no tail, and had odd flying characteristics.  I've never seen one.

Thanks again for sharing. I think the cars in the outside parking are as interesting as the inside. Is there an organized show outside or is it just the guys with 'classics' that attend the show?

btw, no disrespect meant at all, but one of my best little friends (my long hair Chihuahua) is name Sebastien.

Hello and thank you oldcarfudd :) . I have already seen car races (it looks like Formula 3) with Citroen 2-cylinder engines, and it's true that it works well ;)
Thank you for the information I did not know that this plane was called like that.
I have a neighbor in my village who owns a 1924 Ford T, and he is passionate about aviation. And in his youth he was made an autogyro ( autogire )  (it looks like a helicopter but his had no engine), and to have it flown it was necessary to tow it with a car and it was the strength of the seller that took off the autogyro.
And when he tried it, he went on a long straight line (highway under construction) and he was towed by a Peugeot 205. And at one point when the gyroplane was in the sky, he started lifting the rear of the Peugeot 205 (the car was too light), and the driver braked his Peugeot to bring the gyroplane down.
Then then my neighbor installed a VW Beetle engine and he flew with it :)

Thank you TAKerry ;) , the outdoor parking was reserved for the public who came by old car, and those who arrived with modern cars (Peugeot 5008, Renault Megane, ...) was in another parking lot because it was not part of the exhibition .
I didn't know it and I came with my Subaru BRZ, but if I did I would have come with my 1978 Dodge Monaco police and I would have displayed it in the outdoor parking lot ;)
Haha no problem   , I didn't know that was a household name in America :D

Yes, it is a rather rare model.  While the series and body style is not necessarily rare itself, the optional high-performance package makes it rare and desirable.

At the MCACN show in Chicago, Sebastian's close friend was there with his factory supercharged '63 Lark: https://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/forum/your-studebaker-forum/general-studebaker-specific-discussion/71845-1963-r2-lark-the-whistler/page30

If you want to see the "rarest of the rare" for Muscle Cars, MCACN is the place to be!  I expect to be there in a month's time.   https://www.mcacn.com/

You won't be disappointed at all!!

Not a year goes by where there isn't one prototype, factory one-off, or a survivor car present.

In 2019, there were spectators from Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Australia, etc.   It's worth the trip!  On one of your previous posts, I did post a photo of a '71 'cuda Hemi that was at the 2015 MCACN show that was sold new in France.

Yes, in Rosemont, more specifically, which is a mile from O'Hare, where you would land.  All the hotels in the area have free shuttle service from the airport.  Not to mention, there are at least 4 hotels right across the street from the Convention Center where it is held.  I've been attending since 2015.

Oh good ! :) , here in France there are a lot of people who love Rock, American style, American cars and there are several American car clubs and forums.
There are still models that we do not see much, for example the chevrolet corver, dodge coronet, super bee, buick estate wagon 55, ... are rare, but we still see non-current models :)
If you came to the south of France, passed here to say hello :), I would show you around Ferrari ;)

Yes these cars are really awesome, and wanna see the new models also to take inspiration from these.
