Need to polarize a rebuilt 6 v generator in 1950 Plymouth?

Yes.

Because you need to "tell" the iron core of the field windings which direction North and South are for the residual magnetism. This residual magnetism is needed to start the generator generating.

Now, if you saw the generator charging on a test stand, turning in the correct direction as it does on your car, and nothing happened to it while disconnecting or reconnecting it (all work done with battery disconnected) then it probably already has been polarized. But, for a few seconds (minutes...😉) and a piece of wire, it is good practice to perform a polarizing.

Just taking a generator off to paint it or replace brushes, and it was working fine before removal, then no polarizing is needed.

To polarize your Plymouth Autolite generator Just use a short piece of say 16ga.  jumper wire...

Connect the "B" and "A" (battery and armature) terminals on the regulator for just a quick second of a flash...done.

Some of the Mopars around that time frame have the starter relay grounded through the armature so that they couldn't be cranked while the engine is running. As it was explained to me, this also serves to automatically polarize the generator.

And most importantly, stick your tongue on the F terminal, this will confirm that you have done it correctly....😜
