emmd61
Hi.  The radio in my 64 riv lights up but no sound at all. It used to work just fine then nothing at all. How easy is it to take out and replace the radio? Any tricks to take out/replace? Thanks---Arthur
XframeFX
Arthur, if its the original Delco radio, has it ever had its electrolytic capacitors changed? If not, it is very likely one capacitor went 'open'. They should be all be changed anyways, long expired. The radio will likely have to come out anyway by removing the hex nuts under the knobs, then the faceplate and lastly the 2 bolts on the underside of the radio cabinet. Once out, you have several options but make note of the Delco model number on the side. There's a repair place in Utica NY that have served members well. They can install an auxiliary input jack at the same time. Or, go all-out for an Aurora Design Conversion. If you have the reverb or rear speaker fader, need to account for that. telriv
Arthur,    John is correct for radio removal on an original radio. He left out a couple things. 1st. the upper panel above the radio must come off 1st. or else you won't be able to remove the face plate. You can see the four screws that hold it in place above the radio. Remove the wires for the various switches & mark where they came from. You definately have a courtesy light switch as ALL 1st. gen Rivs. have that, BUT could ALSO have a rear defooger switch & a power atenna switch which would be marked ACCESSORY.   Remove the knobs & note any particulars. There is an anti rattle washer under the 1st. knob you remove & then the other knobs. Some have a fibre washer instead of the anti rattle washers. The hex nuts are 5/8ths. inch & require a deep socket. The bolts holding the radio to the lower plate are 7/16ths. inch & are on the bottom. Once removed pull out the radio & dis-connect the antenna from the rear & unplug the wiring & your done.   Replacement is the reverse of removal.  Tom T.
Ali Rizvi
dude. you got to go at a fixer, he will get your work done. Don't get into hassles because i have been on the same road and trust me taking things in your own hand is not a good option. - iPhone repair
XframeFX
Stumbled upon this image of a conversion. Since it was handy, thought I'd post it here. Not sure what conversion this is. Dealers for Aurora Design products claim 'reversible conversions'. This one is not reversible as the original cabinet has been gutted. Still, a capacitor refresh should bring your original radio back. First time pasting as 'Rich Text' in this forum!

TampaRiv
Personally, given the state of music these days,  I'd have to pass on a car that actually had a working radio!!😉
