Buicks in Movies

I just watched "Carefree" from 1938 -- one of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers series.  (And not one of the best, I have to say.)  But in one sequence, Ginger drives a nice '38 Buick convertible with rumble seat (I assume it's a Special, but I can't tell for sure.)

Back to Warner Brothers and their obvious product placement arrangement with Buick.  This time it's "Highway 301," a gritty "police procedural" from 1950 that was supposed to show how crime doesn't pay.  Even though the picture was made in 1950, it seems that Warners had a lot of '41 Buicks on their lot.  They turn up everywhere throughout the picture, including the end where the police and the crooks are both driving Buicks in a final chase scene.  Very entertaining movie!

Yes, 1940 Limited Phaeton model 81C.  (Not to be confused with the 1940 Century convertible driven by Major Strasser, see below.)

As has been mentioned here several times, it seems pretty apparent that Warner Brothers had some kind of product placement arrangement with Buick in the 30s and 40s.  (I mean, how likely is it that a Nazi major in Morocco during WWII is going to be driving a Buick!)

Some more Buicks in a Warner Bros. picture -- this time "The Big Sleep" (1946), the iconic film noir featuring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.  In a scene outside the nightclub/casino run by gangster Eddie Mars, it appears that the parking lot could be a Buick dealership.  In a shot near the door of the club, we see a '40 parked next to a '41:

Next, we see Bogart lurking around a '41 convertible with a '40 Limited in the background:

A close up of Bogart taking cover behind the fender of the '41 convertible:

Then, at the end of the picture, Eddie Mars arrives with his goons in a '41 Limited:

"Shallow Hal" with Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow (just on TV again the other night); an 89-93 slant-back Buick Riviera.
