stvaughn
I need a pulley for a 955R Delco-Remy generator. Does anyone know of a source for these? Thanks, Steve
Guest
Any auto electric shop should be able to supply one.
stvaughn
I’ve got my NAPA guy looking. Just trying to find out if there’s someone out there that specializes in generator parts.
certjeff1
Steve I have looked thru several of my original Delco-Remy parts manuals and none of them show a pulley part number. Which tells me that the vehicle manufacturer supplied the pulley not Delco-Remy. I do have an assortment of pulleys. I might have something but can't promise. stvaughn
Jeff, I took a couple of pictures of the pulley. It has the number 3SA55 and a letter N on it. It is 3 7/8” OD with a 17mm bore, uses a 5/8” wide belt and the hub is offset approximately 1/16” from the generator side surface. The bore of my pulley is worn oversized causing the pulley to wobble on the shaft so I’m looking for one with a tight bore. Thanks for looking, Steve
Curti
If it is cast iron, I know a foundry that will cast it. I have reproduced generator pulleys for Auburns. You will have to balance it.
stvaughn
Thanks Curti, I’m hoping it won’t be that hard to find but we’ll see. Steve
mribbich@wi.rr.com
It may help if we new the type of car the engine and year of what you need. Someone may even have a used generator. Marv.
knobless
Is it keyed?
stvaughn
1932 REO Model S sedan. Yes it has a woodruff key in the shaft. I have managed to get a 0.001 shim in the bore about 2/3 the way around the shaft but I don’t expect that to be a trouble free solution.
certjeff1
Looked thru my pulleys. The closest I have is for 26-28 Chevys and Pontiacs. It is smaller in diameter by about 1/2". From the back side to the center of the v is just over 1/2".
stvaughn
What is the condition of the bore? Is it 17mm? Is that a set screw I see in the first picture? I do have a lead on one off of a REO but am waiting to hear from him. Steve
certjeff1
Yes it is 17mm. I tried the pulley on an armature it feels good and tight. No that hole does not go thru. Not sure why that is there.
stvaughn
Thanks Jeff, give me a day or two to see if this REO pulley materializes. What is your price?
certjeff1
Including shipping I would like $25.00.

Jeff, I’m still waiting to hear from the possible original pulley. I’d prefer to have one with the correct diameter if I can find one. I’ll let you know. certjeff1
Take your time. If you can get the correct part you are better off. But at least this gives you an option and you can always keep up the search. You can never have enough parts for these old vehicles.
Dave39MD
I have one. I would think a small rate box shipping would do. Send me a pm on what you think is a fair price. Dave
sagefinds
There is a REO frame, cowl and engine sitting in a guy's parts repository in Julesburg Colorado about that year that might be available. Don't remember much but there was no carb and the manifold hole was uncovered looking up catching rain and snow. Could probably look up the guy's name and phone number if interested. Not sure how you PM on this site but that would probably be best.
