bhemi
We have been pre-fitting the running boards on my coupe and the gaps seem awfully large. Was there a filler piece or gasket we are missing?
1939_Buick
1939's had a rubber moulding at both ends. Guess '37 are the same The image is with the running board turned over. MCHinson
I don't think 1937's had any type of filler panel. The rubber running board cover wraps around the end and is thicker there than you might think. My 1937 is a Sedan, but there is a bit of a gap between the fenders and running boards.
dibarlaw
Matt: So are mine on my 1937-41 still with original rubber.
Gary W
You have it correct. Once the rubber is replaced (vulcanized or re-covered) there will be a gap. I have about 3/4" between the front and rear fenders. After the fenders are installed, the running board mounting hardware leaves plenty of "wiggle room" to get the board centered. Here's the gap at the front And the rear gap. Mine are both close to 3/4" From Fisher: Describing the 1937 Oldsmobile, but very very similar design: "Running boards are detached from the fenders to eliminate any possibility of squeaks and to facilitate cleaning. Fenders and running boards have been redesigned to prevent the accumulation of dirt and mud without the necessity of a mudguard across the fender" Edited November 30, 2018 by Gary W (see edit history)
