Hello I'm interested in your 54' special differential. I'm looking to change my gear ratio on my 1941 Buick special sedanette 40 series. Do you know if that diff will work for that?

It will work great 😊

Sort of bolt in, but you will probably have to use your old torque tube. Guess the length is different.  Can be hard to separate the drive shaft from the pinion shaft.

Tons of info on the link. I read in another site that I can just change the carrier? Is the easy bolt in way you're talking about.

Yes, in a way, but read the tech articles.  Some people replace the complete diff, with brakes etc & use the original 1941 torque tube.

For 1939 and earlier machine work & more torque tube work is needed.

I'll consider swapping everything once I hear back from airy cat to see the condition of the diff he's selling. Not sure if I contacted him correctly to know if he received my reply to his sale post.

 I changed my '41 Roaadmaster's rear ratio to one from a '55 Century. Its' an upgrade that I would recommend to anyone who drives their car very much.

I put a differential complete with torque tube from a 50 Special into my 40 Special,straight bolt in. The overall length is 1/4” longer than the 40.

I wonder if that will get the way of the fender skirts I'm planning on putting on. Don't want my tires to rub.

Been awhile but it’s the torque tube that’s 1/4” longer,can’t tell the difference,the wheels are centered in the wheelwell.,track width is the same.

Airy Cat last visited this site February 2, 2019, so it's been awhile.
