Rusty_OToole
Another mystery car. This photo said to have been taken in Chicago in 1908 but I believe the car may be a little newer than that. Can anyone give a positive ID?
padgett
Only the dog was allowed in the car ?
Rusty_OToole
Cars were new and it was his first time driving. The family wouldn't ride with him until he 'tried it out on the dog'. That is them, standing back by the house, waiting to see if it blows up or crashes before they risk it. On the right you see the neighbor boys out to see the excitement, one hiding behind the tree just in case. Dosmo
Well, I cheated and did a Google Image Search. If the search proved accurate, the car is a 1908 Maxwell Briscoe Model H. I have absolutely no idea if that is correct. I remember trying to ID this photo some time back. Apparently, I did not think to do a Google Image Search at that time. keiser31
I agree with the Maxwell identification. Edited May 17, 2018 by keiser31 (see edit history)
wayne sheldon
You think Rusty OT is kidding? I don't. And I suspect he is right! I have read some incredible stories of people getting introduced to the new age of technology.
Povertycove
It is more likely that this is a prosperity photo. The man in the car is showing you what he’s achieved...the big family, the nice house, the new car, fine clothes and, politically astute, a cute dog. Good shot for his mayoral campaign. If that photo was taken in Detroit, it would be a ghetto neighborhood today. Craig Edited May 18, 2018 by 8E45E (see edit history)
Rusty_OToole
He got his money's worth out of the photographer. He wanted a picture of himself in his new car and managed to get in his house, his family, his inlaws, his dog and a couple of neighborhood kids for good measure.
