Hubert_25-25
I was going to remove the valve push rod cover studs so that I can take my cylinder in to the machine shop. Is this a good idea? I am afraid I will twist off the stud. These are tapped thru to the water jacket. There is some corrosion in the water jacket. These long hex extensions have a 3/8 thread on the end into the block. Is the best plan to heat around the base of the hex on the block? These are 1924 & 1925 studs. Does anyone have any if I snap off the threads? And then I have to retap a hole. Any thoughts are appreciated. Do I just leave these alone? Not sure if I can get to the back side with penetrating oil. I guess I can if I use a lot. Thank you, Hugh Edited September 26, 2017 by Hubert_25-25 (see edit history)
1924 6-55 Sport Tourer
Hugh, Why do you need to take them out? The studs are not in the way of anything. My block is currently at the machine shop being bored for my new pistons, and i have left them insitu. Besides, if the stud need to be removed, what better place than an engineer/ machine shop to do it for you. Regards David
Terry Wiegand
Hugh, if it were me, I think that I would leave them alone. I realize that they are threaded into the water jacket area and maybe you are thinking it would be a good idea to clean them up before the engine goes all back together. You could run a tap into the outer end threads and chase the threads to clean everything up, but, seriously, if they are not leaking I think that I would leave them be. Just one person's humble opinion here. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas

Fred Rawling
I have never had a problem removing them and if you break one I will send you a replacement. No body ever wants to buy them so I assume that they do not break often. fred.rawling@live.com

Morgan Wright
Just trade your 1925 Buick in and get an antique one. Get one before 1920, you won't have to worry about push rod covers at all!
