Guest Grumpy's Auto Shop
Pictured below is a one-off, bodied entirely in tulipwood. Read more HERE
JWLawrence
Nice to see an old friend. I always went by to see it when a docent at the Blackhawk Automotive Museum in Danville, California. The work on the Tulip wood body is something to be admired. Note the bird figure located on the front splash pan. It was relocated from the radiator cap. Also the copper plated bright work is unuaual and works well with the body color. (o[]o)
Guest Grumpy's Auto Shop
I had hoped such a beautiful creation would inspire more conversation. Edited December 6, 2016 by Grumpy's Auto Shop (see edit history)
keiser31
I saw it when I was a kid. It was in Harrah's collection.
alsancle
I would try starting a Hispano thread down in the CCCA forum. I have pictures of this car from the 1950s. The HC6 gets overshadowed by the J12 which may be the most over the top car of the 1930s.
JV Puleo
It was built for Andre Dubonet and originally had metal fenders... the tulip wood fenders it now has were added as part of a "restoration" many years ago. It's a very well known car.

It's a very well known car. Well known is a given. But it is still remarkable IMO. The 'metal fenders' thing is news to me, and I shall look into it, thank you. Restorer32
I would be surprised if the tulip wood fenders were the only things added during the "restoration". The fenders must be veneer over metal?
lump
I saw this car at Hershey many years ago. IF I remember correctly, those fenders are now wood, inside and out. Amazing car.
8E45E
I believe its a Labourdette body, and Jean Labourdette used that tulipwood strip design on a few cars. http://theoldmotor.com/?p=137985 Craig
alsancle
I'll see if I can find my pictures this weekend. I think they are 50 or 60 years old.
