VintageLiterature
Hoping the AACA brain trust can assist with another identification. I purchased the attached photo at an antique show - it's a vintage print photo showing a group of men in an early luxury car. My best guess is Pierce Arrow but I really have no idea. Can anyone confirm the make and model? Also, based on the high-end vehicle and formal occupants, the 2 men in the back look to be high profile (politicians? business leaders?). They look vaguely familiar but I can't place it (and might be confusing them with someone else). It would be amazing to identify them as well though I realize that might be more of a longshot. lump
I would guess the Pierce is an early 1920's vintage. I wander if the dignitaries might be Orville Wright, and one of the military officers that he took along for early flight tests?
lump
I just checked, and that fatal aircraft crash involving Orville Wright and a young lieutenant happened in 1908, and this Pierce Arrow is much later than that. I note that the young man in the derby hat (who reminded me of Orville Wright), has a cane hanging over the door of the car by his side.
VintageLiterature
Very interesting observations - I didn't notice the cane.
olympic
I'll take a guess that the fellow in the uniform is British.
Grimy
I can't help with the people, but the car is a Pierce-Arrow Series 33 7-passenger touring. The Series 33 was built 1922-25. This one has front wheel brakes (we can see the drum), which makes it June 1924 or later.
Dave Mellor NJ
The driver has an Adolf mustache. It wasn't taboo yet.
zipdang
The bearded gent in the rear has a passing resemblence to George Bernard Shaw. I don't know, given the age of the car, if that is possible or not.
VintageLiterature
@Grimy Thank you! I think you're exactly right about it being a series 33! Amazing that you were able to pin down the exact age from the barely visible brakes! It's a very beautiful car. @zipdang Interesting - I don't think it's him but definitely do see the resemblance. emjay
Why does everyone call that an Adolf Hitler mustache? Charlie Chapin had it before, at least in USA movies. And Oliver Hardy.
