63 Red Riv
In the process of rebuilding my 63 nailhead. My mechanic called and said the timing cover is shot. Anyone know where I can get a decent used one or should I buy a new one? Thanks as always,Brian

63 Red Riv
Thanks Bill, I called and he didn't have any good ones but I am keeping his number. Sounds like a great resource.Brian
RivNut
Have you looked for one from a vendor in the classified sections of the Riview?Ed

60FlatTop
Shot? Every time I see "My Mechanic" I cringe. Did he break the 1/4-20 cap screws. Just drill them out and Heli-Coil them. If the casing is porous coolant would have been leaking in and it seems like you would have known. If the cover was being cleaned and glass beaded in the inside (?) a little aggressively, well, mechanics will be mechanics won't they.Bernie

JanZverina
"Call for price" means break out the 12+ year old scotch (if you're a drinking man) before you make the call. I'm with 60FlatTop - first see if a good mechanic can salvage the part with either Heli-coils or a good aluminum sealant, or a combination thereof. 63 Red Riv
I always question when a mechanic calls. But this one was the right call. The previous owner for some reason drilled a hole in the face of the cover and then put a screw in it. The screw and the surrounding area had major corrosion plus all the other issues that come with 50 years of age.
