rhb1999
Packard owners may know of a source for these, or a restoration shop could make them. There maybe a marine rub rail that will be a match for these.
Owen_Dyneto
Check with Don Sommer, American Arrow Corp.
mikewest
Buy the brass 1/2 round stock thta is lead filled ,cut the end on a long angle and file to make the points and get chrome plated. Not a horrible job.
Curti
Try Northfield Forming: They supply the suppliers. Beltfed
I was looking at your postings and noticed someone suggested 1/2" brass stock. Several years ago I put spears on my Packard's slick running boards to keep the shoe scratches down. I used 1/2" half-round SST bar stock I purchased from 'McMaster-Carr'. Cost was very reasonable. I put the points on the ends with a grinder/file then polished them. Used a thin 3-m two sided tape to stick them down. They look great. This might work for you if you are a DIY guy. Guest 37gman
thanks, I I will look McMaster-Carr up on the web.
Owen_Dyneto
Problem with using some commercial half-round brass is that the trunk rack strips don't have a half-round profile, they are peaked at the center.
Beltfed
I didn't get that info on the peaks in the other posts. The half-round SST is flat, so all bets are off on that part.
Seldenguy
Be sure of what you are looking at, there is a big difference in the cross section profile between 1/2 round and 1/2 OVAL. --Bob
Restorer32
All depends on how original you want you car to be. If originality is what you are after best to bite the bullet and pay the price. You will have a tough time making that curved top piece.
Guest 37gman
Thanks for the reply's,I think I will try and get them repaired and if I can't I will look back at these reply's and get some made,I like the old style.
Restorer32
No need to get them made. They are available I believe from Max Merritt or Don Sommers and are identical to original. If yours are stainless they likely are restorable.
