TG57Roadmaster
Borrowing the idea from another site, let's make this a repository for period imagery of 1957 Buicks. Not new images, but vintage street scenes, PR photos, etc; I think it'll be fun! From Charles Phoenix's SoCal website, this Model 73 appears to be painted in Dover White over Shell Beige.Larger, Citizen's State Bank, Oklahoma City, OK, opened in 1958.Larger, some heavy hand-tinting from Baricev's, Biloxi, MS.Larger, Wilson's Motel & Apts, St. Petersburg, FL.Larger, all that's missing from this Century Caballero wire photo is Fido, the family pooch!TG

buick man
Very nice collection of period photos. See those nice deep hexachrome plated oem bumpers all the cars sported back then. Take notice. Not the crackle bright tinsel bright plastic like chroming coming out of the plate shops now-a-days. The real deal.
NTX5467
NEAT PICTURES! Those station wagons really got around back then. Seeing some of that architecture is really neat, too! There are many car picture websites out there. Some are more advertising copy-oriented, some ads from magazines, some from sales literature, and some like the "real life" scenes posted here. The old Plan59.com website was one gem in that respect--now you might have to go to the "Wayback Machine" at Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free Books, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine to find those postings, but it's worth it. There are many other epherma websites, too. Definitely some "inexpensive entertainment" for a cold winter weekend!Enjoy!NTX5467

Guest Rob McDonald
DAN, thank you for going all the way to the Netherlands to find clips of "Cutter's Way" for us. I'd forgotten about a very shabby Austin-Healey 3000, in the role of Supporting Beater. Also forgotten was a lot of skin. Bear with that though, until you get to the climax (pardon the term), where John Heard's Roadmaster rag devours a Toyota Corona.
buick man
NTX: No offense but I went to the link you provided and found no posting links regarding 1957 Buick after inputting that search criteria. Any suggestions?David
Guest Rob McDonald
DAVID, I went back the link provided for "Cutter's Way" and something has changed. It no longer takes you straight to the movie trailer. It is worth a drive (in a Buick) to the video store to get the whole thing. Great movie. NTX5467
I found that posting by just going through the website, item by item. But that IS the date the particular picture was posted on. No Buicks in the particular picture, but something else which has been discussed in the General Forum recently - - at a birthday party.Enjoy!NTX5467
buick man
Time Machine Alert: Here is an unique and interesting analysis article of the 1957 Buick in 1957:Popular Mechanics - Google BooksGood Original Photos! Note Article Starts around 100 by the link, then goes from there with some of it above on page 98 or so. There is also anengineer's analysis of the 57 Buick as an aside article, but then also continues and jumps to page 218 then jumps down further on from there. A lot of owner opinions on everything from glass to seats to gas mileage. I think it is a neat "Way Back Machine" article! TG57Roadmaster
In the late-'70's, I worked at Thom McAn's Shoes at Colonial Plaza, Orlando's first first big strip mall.It had been surpassed by a new mall by then but didn't look much different, just not so many shoppers!LargerLarger, Stop N Shop, location unknown.Larger, Sevilla Motel/Apts., St. Petersburg, FL.Larger, Wagon Wheel Restaurant, Big Springs, TX.Larger, Rainbow Row, Charleston, SC.Larger, kinda cheating here, as I took this Charleston pic about 15 years ago and was surprized to see the old postcard above. buick man
Well actually it was taken just a block down the street from my room here at the Hotel California. Usually there is a "parking problem" but not on this street. I guess if someone parks along here it is usually the drunks and we find them in the morning at the bottom. buick man
Oh and I just noticed something else about the hill photo. If you look at the row of small trees to the left, and if it is a true hill, then they appear to be growing straight out sideways to the incline of the hill. buick man
Good post. I have seen this on youtube before. Notice how most lane changes are made in the beginning of the film, either by arm signal or no signals. More Buicks on the road than the movies of that era would have had you believe. Seemed like everyone drove Fords or a Chevy in the movies. I also noticed near the end of the film, the traffic flowing in the opposite direction. No one is riding any ones tail and it appears everyones brakes are working just fine thank you with upgrading to disk power brakes. ( I know they were'nt invented then) Just saying. buick man
Nice photo mr earl. So now we know that the front headlight rim is actually suppose to fit in synch with the fender. I always see them lower. Also notice how the bumper is suppose to actually fit and be properly spaced between the body itself. Also notice how clear the turn signal lenses are and not snow white. I think this is a complete dover white car. However if was antique ivory it would look just like my Roadmaster. Now take a look at this front end. err I don't mean the dogs... buick man
The first photo is of Bill Murray Buick, located in Los Angeles, CA where my Roadmaster was bought new! This photo was taken just sometime before it closed.Great photo view showing classic 1957 Buick Special Convertible Coupe automobile. Taken at W. J. Neverett Garage car sales lot Nashua, NH. Plate on front bumper appears to be 1960 dealer plate but is a little difficult to see/read.
