Don't know if the O-ring is completely disintegrated but I'm not seeing one here. Unless it is in the body, which is difficult to see how to disassemble because of all the dirt and undercoat.

  2. Did basically the same on my '61, but I got the quote back no problem. Ended up buying from him (Classic). Very happy with the fit, etc. Perhaps a misunderstanding?

That was all I wanted, quote with shipping. Did not leave any credit card info and used the "contact us" form. Then a month later get an email,"pay me"! Ya think SMS would make a whole interior with no funds whatsoever? I don't think so. The guy was wrong and nasty about it.

  3. I will get to this today. I was in the car in the driveway yesterday and saw a puff of smoke/vapor from the that area. So whatever happened was yesterday.

Lemme get it off and look at it,seems like an easy fix if I can find that O-ring.

    Sight glass,so far so good.

What about the oil charge, think it will need it?

  4. Thanks Willy, yea I remember now. So that means evacuate. Should I throw an oil charge in when I recharge or should there still be enough left in there?

Just looked at that picture, looks like something from "Alien", don't it? I thought a blown head gasket made nasty looking stuff!

  5. Topped off Freon, took a ride, mid 80's humid out. Cool but not real cold like it should be in car. Duct temp mid/upper 50's.

Problem is in picture, gas bypass valve frosted hissing & leaking dye(nasty stuff!). Ever seen this? Major problem?

    What's next?

    Thanks

  6. Got an email yesterday from Classic auto exhaust, Geneva Oh. Guy says your exhaust is done, pay for it. I sent back, that I inquired, as I did Waldrons and Kepich, about hardware and shipping but did not order anything. He says how'd I get your address, I replied, to get a shipping charge.

He sends a bill(which anyone could have made up)dated 5/4. I said, what outfit would custom make an item without even a deposit?

His(Scott)response was a terse "go take some computer classes"!

Bear in mind the email yesterday was the first I heard from this place, never did answer my original questions.

Anyone else have any dealing with this character? This a new scam?

    Just curious, be aware.

  7. It's not the octane rating, it's the lead or lack thereof. The lead formed a cushion between the valves and the valve seats. Articles have been written stating only high performance engines will wear excessively without the lead. I use a lead substitute every fill up in my 55. Does it do anything? Not sure. Does it make me feel better and Gunk more money? Yup.

  8. OK, so how do I differentiate between a bad sending unit and a bad gauge? Guage reads E empty with ign. on. Ohmeter in sender wire at trunk reads 20.3 at gauge, 19.5. Pink wire shows 12.9 volts. Tank is near full. Or am I going about this wrong? I took gauge out to clean face a may have done it wrong!

  9. Cool! No pun intended. Got mine working(with the help of Old Tank) last year. Found I needed to add a can every 6 to 8 weeks. Slow leak somewhere. Got a can of R12 with leak detecter. Will start the season with that and see what shows up.

  10. Got a small coolant leak. Appears to be coming from the bottom of the thermostat housing/manifold. Figure it is a bad O-ring. Correct in assuming it comes off with four bolts, two through lower A/C compressor mount and two through the P/S pump bracket? Or are there more?

  11. 99% sure they were covered. Glue residue appears the same throughout. Don't recall seeing any other Roady's like this.Anyone else? The cardboard is the same as used in cars with no fabric, just cardboard trunk lining.Fabric glued to it. Divider, forward of the evaporator is not covered and shows original cardboard. Guess that's what you got for $400 over a Super!

  12. James, it's two different threads woven. SMS lists as Cross Stitch Taupe w/Black. Matches exactly what was in the trunk before.

Anne, SMS http://smsautofabrics.com is a vintage car upholstery business. They also do door panels.

Mr. Earl, thanks, the old stuff is kind of nasty. Will probably throw it in a garbage bag and store in the attic. Really only good for patterns. Someday my daughter will say "what the hell is this bagash&@"!

  13. Dale, yep car was a 15 footer. Roof was 25 foot, had to be done and AAA was just too boring. Some of the interior metal was redone but some was left original and appears to be Nile green(X) a Spring color option which would have been available on this car. Just had some chrome done, so now it's a 7 1/2 footer! To answer your question yes the roof kinda matches the interior.post-54093-143142510431_thumb.jpg
