  1. Checked the power to the hot gas bypass valve today and found the voltage to be 11.3 no matter where the temp control was placed. So I will assume there is something wrong with the temp rheostat. The 1954 Cadillac A/C manual says to check the valve by applying battery voltage which I did. If it is working an audible click can be heard, which it did. Not that it matters that much.

Yes Willie and James, since Al Gore invented the internet and global warming, the NYC area goes from cool damp springs to hot dang summers overnight!

  2. This past winter I sent the hot gas bypass valve(which catastrophically failed last year), the expansion valve and the receiver drier to Old Air for service. When I first put them in and charged the system(R12) the duct temp was close to 60F. Remembering that Willie once said the hot gas bypass valve was  possible trouble ,I disconnected the power. The duct temp went down to 50F. I next opened the the expansion valve and found it was wide opened. I played with the adjustment and found that approx. 3 1/2 turns from closed produced a duct temp of 39F. So far so good!post-97046-0-12910800-1433702946_thumb.j

  3. I did this job over this winter. Got a 50 ft. roll. I precut all the pieces about 6-8 inches longer than noted in the chart and glad I did. Easier to hack off a few inches than making a new piece.  I think I used about 33-34 feet total on a 55 Roadmaster.

  4. Thanks Willie and James. Will have to check for carpet tongue/seat interference. I used double sided carpet tape sparingly.  The front tunnel came a little lumpy but I have seen quite a few pretty nice cars with lumpy tunnels and having ridden in cars of this era when they weren't that old, I seem to remember it that way

  5. New carpet from SMS. This is what the consensus agreed(including SMS) is the original style and color. It is a vast improvement over the faded replacement loop the car came with. And there was enough left over to make a set of mats.

    Two items:

1-While I have been very impressed with their products, patience is an SMS requirement. Several months lead time is probably the case.

2-Quite a bit of cutting and trimming is needed for a good fit. Couldn't understand why the carpet was bound when most of the binding was cut off for a proper fit. In the end very little of the binding shows.

None the less I am very happy with the finished product.

  6. Just my point of view . I have seen lifts for as low as $1500 new. You deduct the expense of a reinforced concrete pit and it's a little less. If you decide to sell your house you'd need to fill that pit(unless you found someone looking for a garage pit) or remove the lift and put it in your new place. Just saying.

  7. If I may add, Roadmaster and Super Speedos are attached to the dash top. And if by chance this past winter one may have taken the dash and speedo out to paint said dash, one should have lubed said speedo so it would not have become noisy. Just saying. So next winter said dash will come out again to replace headliner and at that time will be lubed. Just saying.

  8. Thanks all,PITA job but I think it made a big difference and now a little more original. And did not get tetinus!

Willie, no joy on the vacuum lines. Called CARS they are not even sure of the proper size hose. They offer 3 different sizes at $1.75 a foot so I'd like to get it right. Not that this hangar queen ever sees inclement weather!
