  1. Welcome to the Riv world. I also prefer the '66-7 and lean strongly towards the '66 with the nailhead rather than the 430 engine-good luck with your search-Dan Mpls. Mn.
  2. I recall an eliptical ferris wheel type in downtown Dallas-also about 10-12 car capacity-never saw such before or again. I'm thinking a chain drive deal with very large links! I was visiting a pal and we saw the movie "Little Fauss and Big Halsey" across the street and I'm thinking it was 1970-71. Dan Mpls. Mn.
  3. I haven't tried to further seal the shroud -but usually cut short pieces of 3/8" fuel line to replace the sleeve rubber and that makes for a nice snug mounting-good luck Dan Mpls. Mn.
  4. I have white and black that to me show dirt the most. Todays market is increasingly gal driven and cosmetics play a larger role-and color being with that. My example is both the wife and her sister only consider bright red. Lots of models aren't available in red and they will not even look at them. I've mentioned that to sales types and they agree that female(especially)sales are lost, but really have no answer as to why a larger spectrum of colors aren't available. 50 some years ago my dad always ordered his cars and with 'special color' orders often being a part of the various option boxes checked off. Seems strange that today cars being built right in the USA and with computer controled painting systems aren't available is more colors to appeal to more potential buyers. Jim sure knows the early Rivs and has done a great service with his research Dan ROA/BCA Mpls. Mn.
  5. Swing over to V8Buick.com in the cars and parts leads area as Wheelz is working with that car-Dan Mpls. Mn.
  6. Hi Tony-Thermo possibly isn't opening fully, but after ruling that out, I'd focus on a radiator rebuild-good luck-Dan
  7. I like that Rick Dale actually 'does something'-a lot of the other shows are just various forms of flippers. Dan Mpls. Mn.
  8. Tom-nice boat. Here's the Buick angle-Century offered the marine adapted Buick 401 nailhead in the early '60s. I'm helping a young fella who restores wood boats sort out some mechanical issues on one. Dan Mpls. Mn.
  9. ouch!-aren't they about the same as the power window motors? Dan Mpls. Mn.
  10. I've had good results with cutting/forming sheet metal and using the body panel adhesives in the trunk floors of some '65-6 cats-good luck! Dan Mpls. Mn.
  11. I recall a visit there some years ago. Not a bad yard at all. The owner was a bit different as he refused to name a price for anything-it was 'what's your offer?' Dan Mpls. Mn.
  12. The water manifold had a lifting eye cast into it for '66 only and the 603 heads also '66 only. Yes, a '65 401 painted up as a '66 425 and with the '66 only valve covers. Interesting distributor vacuum advance input! good luck-Dan Mpls. Mn.

    rear end

They are usually 3.23 with the Dynaflow. When the 400 trans came in '64 and after, generally 3.07
  14. Bolt it up. If there's vibration, unbolt and rotate 120 degrees and try again-if still not right you have one more shot at another 120. Hopefully, you are in decent nominal balance and won't get into a problem with this-good luck!
  15. As per Jason's balance comment-the flexplate is a relatively light component. The larger issue is with the heavy torque convertor that's bolted to it-especially any after market and 'rebuilt' units that either aren't balanced or are done poorly- and the convertor can be bolted up 3 ways and during engine r+r this should be marked, but often isn't. So, the flex needs to be on 'right' for locating the convertor 'right'-Dan Mpls. Mn.
  16. I've done this many times on various nailhead A/C cars and never had to move the compressor. I keep a spark plug socket built with an integral u-joint-maybe that's the ticket. Possibly you have a shorter belt driving your compressor that is the cause-Dan Mpls. Mn.
  17. Hi John-from what I hear folks often aren't happy with the ride height they end up with after replacement-so I'd be careful in the research/purchase. I'd probably do all 4 myself. Rears are easy and front are harder with a bit of potential danger involved! good luck-Dan Mpls. Mn.
  18. I have a '66 in Champagne with Black interior and like both very well. Also the Fawn and Dove(off White) in others cars. The black seems best to me, but if I was a Florida guy, it would be Dove-good luck! Dan Mpls. Mn.
  19. There's a drilled/tapped boss on the exhaust manifold that it bolts to-good luck Dan Mpls. Mn.
  20. Yup-an older thread and I can still agree with the comments of Paul K. I have mostly been a 'flat land' resident and have never had braking issues. When we lived in Colorado, some smarts requires engine braking in mountains or you'll find yourself with high heat/shorter service life in most any braking system. The wide and large 12" Buick brakes were way more than my Pontiac world and about anything I saw or drove 'back then' and I think they're still just fine-
  21. Yes, more frame and also the rear end looks like it comes from a dump truck! Dan Mpls. Mn.
  22. John-I'll go for a couple 3 piece-sending pm-thx-Dan
  23. Yes-I've had the same bearing observation/experiences Dan Mpls. Mn.
  24. Tom-This is a conical rubber 'tip' type deal that slides over a short straight 'needle'-so not for zerks. I think the ones I've bought might be Plews or Lisle products and I've seen them sold where there's a pretty complete 'greasing' product line. A straight steel needle would work somewhat filling the slider cavity, but I don't see how the CV's could be lubed with anything else. Dan Mpls. Mn.
  25. I use the rubber tip adapter=easy to fill for the spline lub and for the CV's, it also seals the cup around the check ball so the lub gets in there where it needs to go. Sometimes the ball can be a bit 'frozen' as these are often neglected-I use PB Blaster to free them up-good luck, Dan Mpls. Mn.
