  1. Guys, does anybody have parts for 1928 Master he can part with - 1 set of front spring shackle with good thread - 1 rear spring block, the bronze bushing in mine has gone long time ago and the pin worked in bare steel so any new bushing will not help, the hole is very elliptical Alternatively, has anybody tried to weld-up these parts so to be able to cut a new thread and cylindrical hole? Any suggestion welcome. Thanks Josef
  2. That metal sheet box is probably an early attempt for "triple sealed engine" before Buick introduced it :-) From the picture looks quite well made so anyone really cared about his valvetrain :-)
  3. Just my 2 pennies worth - external contracting brakes (and these drums definitely look like that) were used on Buick until 1929, they had front frakes from 1924 on. They also used Buffalo / Ash wire wheels as an extra but usualy those with pin drive rather than dental drive. Also 1928 Buick Master axle uses 6 bolts to attach brake plate to steering knuckle, not sure with other years / models. That being said, could be possibly kind of mixture between parts and makes. Wheels are nice for sure !
  4. Mines are out too, ughhh.... Used a combination of push-pull method and flame. I am going to have made new case hardened, I do believe they originally were. But when they worn the hard surface is off therefore the used ones do not seem to be very hard. Josef
  5. There must be a good shop who is able to weld the head/block in Germany, we have a good one here in Czech Republic too, they welded head for my 1928 Master Six (2 cracks between exhaust channels and valve guides), pressurized, leak tested etc. It is not cheap though... If you search ebay and like and be patient enough I do believe you will find the good replacement head and / or block in US as well. This could be also costly becuse of shipping, they are hell heavy..... Good Luck Josef
  6. 1926 / 1927 Master Six, model 26-51 (or 27-51 if 1927 model) is my vote.....
  7. Howard, congratulation to your purchase. They are late 20s aftermarket item. I bought similar nice set some 2 yrs ago for my 1928 Master Six Buick, unfortunately the car needs to be restored first. They mount above windscreen usually under sun visor. In action the tube with respective lamp shifts approx 8" (right / left) and the light goes on. Be careful on the disassembly on the lamps, they are nickel plated pot metal and in this age very vulnerable. Enjoy!
  8. I would think of 1925-1927 Buick rather. Packards usually had disc wheel in this period and also the barrel shapped headlamps used on Packards did not have that "explicit" bezel.
  9. Leif, thats perfect. I thought about the same solution when talked about "puller". Will give it a try. On more question - that small pin needs to be drilled out, right? Its not conical so that could be knocked out. Josef
  10. Leif, yes, pretty much that. But how do you get it out? Do I need remove bracket from the frame? i would like to avoid that. Josef
  11. Guys, sorry for spamming this forum again, has anybody here exchanged the rear spring hinge pin(s)? Mines are badly worn. I noticed there is a small cross pin so thought about to drill it out and pull the hinge pin out using puller. Is this small pin cylindrical or tapped one? Would this work or is it necessary to remove the whole flange, machine pin out, insert a new one and re-rivet the flange to the frame? Any advice apreciated. Attached picture of my 28-49 at "stage zero" and detail of worn spring hinge pin. Josef
  12. French Lake Auto Parts worked to my best satisfaction, thanks! They just did not get my first e-mail......
  13. Thanks guys, any further leads / ideas?
  14. Even 1926, 27 and 28 used usual Buick badge, but with wording "McLaughlin" (upper) and "Canada" (lower) in the white frame. 1926 & 28 were the same, slightly bigger than 27. These and also older examples can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/carphotosbyrichard/sets/72157615833602188/. Do not worry I just do not have such a beatiful car so I have to criticise others cars :-)
  15. Well done! Shouldnt you have McLaughlin badge on radiator?
  16. I know cars using Zenith 30 HK (the number is the diffusor size in milimeters obviously) but do not know the car using 36, maybe something w/ 3 or more liters in capacity. I am thinking about Delage, maybe a big Peugeot.....

    what is this....

....one of big Fiats, 519 namely?
  18. Hi, yes, I know what is it, but I wonder what car used this really BIG carb. Any expert on European cars here? Josef
  19. 1928 Buick...., see bullet shaped lamps, radiator shape and goddess on the cap, hubcaps.... Referring to the size I should have add Master Six Buick on 128" wheelbase (model 28-54 if I am correct).

    What am I?

Hallo again from the Czech Republic. Does anybody recognise a car on attached picture? Thanks in advance. Josef
  21. Mark, thanks for hint. This looks like 1927 Master chassis with shocks added. Will try if the guy chop it for me. Josef
  22. Any other hints / leads - to rodders for example? Josef
  23. Hi, I wonder if there is anybody outside who has abandoned 1928 Master frame and is willing to chop the front cross member for me. I think I can fix mine by welding but I do not feel safe to weld much on the place where engine sits. I am attaching pictures of existing cross member and the picture from parts list. Thanks for help. Josef
  24. So... removed the drivers door and found nothing. Actually close to left lower corner of drivers door are two 2mm holes, center line distance of 73mm, that indicate kind of badge installed there. Unfortunately no badge, also cannot see the outline of it. One thing I did not mentioned earlier - my speedo is calibrated in kph rather than in mph. Josef
  25. Hi, any idea about these remnants? Thanks Josef
