  1. No, someones handiwork as an "improvement" to modernize their car
  2. Seems to be the case from my experience too
  3. I am not saying there is anything wrong with Tan/Brown/Orange (my parents owned a 1931 Cadillac in the combination and at age 7 in 1972, I chose its colors), I am just saying that when time to sell it screams 1970's (along with avocado green, harvest gold, and rust/brown and yellow colored kitchen appliances of the era) and offers come in at not 100% (many come in at 60%, 70% and ... of what they should be and nothing wrong with that if you are accepting of it, but if not accepting of it then do not do it). And even those who love the color combination of Tan/Brown/Orange are savvy enough to use other's dislike to their negotiation advantage.
  4. That is great - I have seen the colors and they will be very nice.
  5. Flower Car - if unfamiliar with the concept, in larger cities they carried flowers to gravesides in often a matching vehicle to the hearse (which the hearse could also double as a Ambulance as many cities did not have ambulances as we have today and if you needed medical assistance of an ambulance you sought help from an undertaker - aka private ambulance service).
  6. Apparently, it is a Packard ! Does it "float your boat" ?
  7. By the way, not to knock Sedans - there are some TRULY STUNNING ones out there (and they make wonderful tour cars too), but that said, 98% plus of them are things that I do not feel worthy of plowing serious time/money into and/or paying top dollar for - if going to spend it then spend it on a Convertible. As you and I have discussed, I do prefer "Club Sedans" first and that is followed by "Convertible Sedans" (same enough concept in looks and yet top goes down). And, I would take on another horrendously difficult restoration (or maybe even two) for a Sedan that really floats my boat (though, when I see rust and rotted wood it will take some serious motivation).
  8. Laughing - a lot of people had to beat that into me. It comes from my Mom's cousin who had a fabulous car collection matched to my parents (and all their car friends) who have a far different mentality to car collecting than most people. And of course great friends like you !!!
  9. As mom would say - "we restored it once and we can restore it again, so lets go have fun." Right up there is "only a car, we have garages full of them." And "art is for wall and cars are for the road."
  10. I like that you have your tops down on cars !!! Most people never have the fun you are having either - there is nothing better than a well sorted 30's convertible for touring.
  11. My whole garage - everyone of them is down for the summer (and 4 door convertible too) - and yes the tops are never the same after you put them down even once.
  12. Rare car, good looking club sedan, pretty solid (but I bet some woodwork will still be involved), pretty complete (there will be a bunch of unusable stuff though that will have to be remanufactured/recast), takes a car like this to get you a good steering wheel/good intruments/etc to separate men from boys when all is said and done via restoration (I just helped a friend buy a car for 7K so they could get a stunning steering wheel - he will trade steering wheels and resell rest to end up with perhaps $500.00 in wheel allowing him to achieve wanted awards), good horsepower, and probably a few more good points that are not coming to me at this second - I would say this car would bring same price today too. Unfortunately, takes resourcefulness and a labor of love and/or deep pockets for it to become an even 95 point car.
  13. Top does not go down on the Cadillac !!!
  14. Try this company for your leather: www.keleenleathers.com - they are well use to matching/custom dyed and custom finished leather (not going to be cheap, but any color not commonly used in a car today will also not be cheap and then no leather is cheap to begin with). Get at least an extra hide. And then give the local trimmer the front seat and when done do the back (ie some project get overwhelming quickly for people no matter what their skill level).
  15. Sidenote: I like your approach to getting this car on the road. I am seeing a ton of "I am going to do ..." coming on the market and it is obvious the people tried to do too many things and gt in over their head quick.
  16. Just a sidenote: I do not want to rain on anyone's parade, but after you sell a few Tan and Brown cars, especially Tan and Brown cars with Orange wheels, you get a little paranoid (and a lot of Green's too, plus White, and stay around Brown, old man Gold, and ....). And, everyone seems to on AACA forum scream right back that they love the colors - yet try to get a check of of their hands. My best advice is to be real careful with your color choice so people do not scream 70's Tan and Brown at you. I have now been repainting the Orange wheels to Maroon, but not cost effective to repaint whole cars, so ... As to tape - use fine line tape and then use painter's masking covering 50% of that tape.
