  1. Vacuum tank systems work great as long as you drain all the fuel from the vacuum tank and carburator as part of your winterizing process. I just close the valve at the top of the tank with the engine running until it runs out of gas.
  2. The Red Lion Hotel is still taking resevations today...April 30th. You can just walk across the parking lot to the Hilton.
  3. Most of the mechanicals are done; engine, tranny, radiator, heater core, starter, generator, brakes, tie rods, king pins, etc. Needs very little body work, paint, upholstery, chrome, & assembly. Call Dick Larkin in Vancouver, Wa 360-892-3236 Email me for photos: durcodude@comcast.net
  4. Again, welcome aboard! Dave Corbin is your man for self shifters...(he really isn't a shifty character at all). Dave is on this site regularly, but when you get your new directory, give him a call. He is in TX. Hope to see you in Seattle...
  5. I run 34" X 4" BW Lesters on my 13 Buick and just bought two new ones. They run smooth and handle great. I will continue to use lesters.
  6. I suggest you get your rims plated if you are concerned about damaging paint. I use corn starch to make everything slip in place. This includes the tubes and flaps as well as the tires. I use a rim tool per the posted photo, but be sure you get one that is the right size for your rims. Two flat irons with rounded ends work almost as well if you know how to work them. You really need a demonstration to learn the tricks.
  7. You can get away with running 12 volts to a 6 volt starter as long as you don't crank it too long. Another good idea, is to connect a ground cable directly from the battery to a mounting bolt on the starter. Heavy 6 volt cables are a must to handle the amperage of the 6 volt system. If you already have 12 volt cables, maybe you should use one to ground the starter.
  8. Kevin, I would like to help, but I cannot tell from your description if the hood is high or low relative to the body. Please explain further or send photos. durcodude@comcast.net
  9. The car is located 20 miles southwest of Minneapolis & belongs to the BCA Gopher State treasurer, Leonard Cross. The tires are BF Goodrich Silvertown Whitewalls, 4 ply tubeless, size 7.60-15, showing little wear. New paint and new rear seat upholstry, 96,000 miles. Contact Tom Halfpenney 651-738-0838 or tmhalfpenny@msn.com
  10. Willis makes some very good points about the the owners of cars in different classes close together may cause friction. In my humble opinion, segregating cars by judging groups will serve to further polarize people with different interests in this hobby. I think it is better to bring everyone together. I like to compare the cars side by side to appreciate both the original, restored, and customized cars. This could also help de-polarize some who never took the time to get to know how and why these cars end up as they do. Again, I suggest the different judged classes should be grouped together within one area for that year and model. Another issue briefly memtioned, was getting the general membership's input. I think it surprised several BOD members when the results of last year's Bugle survey revealed a more significant interest in prewar articles than previously expected. Perhaps we should conduct another Bugle survey about how the BCA shows should be laid out? Not everyone can attend BOD meetings or even local chapter meetings on a regular basis, but I believe everyone gets The Bugle.
  11. If they were all parked together by year and model, how many cars in these other classes are we talking about that would be parked more than 200 feet apart? Perhaps one of the qualifications for judges should be good walking shoes? Show attendees walk around to see all the cars...not just one or two classes. In my opinion, the show should be set up for the convenience of the many...not just the few.
  12. None of my cars have washers behind the lug nuts, only the lugs.
  13. That is a "fat man" steering wheel used on many brands of cars as an aftermarket acessory.
  14. I have a set of four 18" tires mounted on rims from my 31 Buick parts car. They all hold air. I also have an extra pair of 34 X 4 tires. I will be in Santa Cruz for Easter weekend after I drop off some parts in Redwood City Ca. Send me a private email with your address etc. durcodude@comcast.net
  15. Mike, To check for out of round, remove the tire and rim & put something stationary next to the wheel while you spin it. You will soon know if you have a problem. If you do have an out of round wheel, you might try loosening the hub bolts and knock it back into round with a block and large hammer (while is is off the car). When it is round again, just re-tighten the hub bolts and punch the threads to lock the nuts.

  18. Michael, I suggest you check to see if your spoke wheels are round. If the car was just sitting on it's tires for a long time and not put on jack stands, the wheels may be out of round. You may not need new rims....
