  1. Hello Randy, Sorry I am a little late to this conversation. I have a 20 Special six touring with Kevlar clutch lining and a 20 big six touring with leather. I prefer the leather. Bob Knaak in California does a great job at a fair price. Let us know where you are and maybe someone can recommend a radiator shop. I am in Ohio. Dennis

    Magneto timing

Thanks again to Layden and the forum. Following up as promised. Set it up backwards per the manual. Two pulls cold ( one choke) and first pull warm every time. Schebler model O still a little rich. We're getting closer. Dennis

    Magneto timing

Layden, This may be exactly what I need . I considered setting it up backward ( reverse rotation) but I convinced myself this couldn't possibly be correct. Thanks a bunch. I'll let you know the results. Dennis
  4. I'd like to give a thumbs up to our forum member Bhigdog. While reading these forums, I've noticed that many members have varying skill levels and areas of expertise. I needed some help in machining a new bezel for my 13 Jackson. I PM'ed Bhigdog for some advice. He asked for some dimensions and sketches and about a week later he sent me the bezel. Fit like a glove. About a week later, a second bezel arrived so I could keep it assembled and send one to plating. How about that! Just like it's supposed to be. Thanks again, Dennis Long

    Magneto timing

Hello, I am working on a 1913 Jackson. It has a replacement American Bosch magneto with a impulse starter. Does the impulse need to be "pre loaded" to time the magneto? Does anybody have any published material how this is typically done? I have a Dykes that says to preload and set retarded on TDC. An old tractor manual says to preload and set 5 degrees ATC. I have tried both as well as no preload TDC. I hate to use my last Toyota repair kit on this car. (1/2 stick TNT). Any ideas or help? Thanks, Dennis

  10. Scott and George, Thanks a bunch! If you ever encounter an extra book, I'm interested. Dennis
  11. Hello George, I have been unable to locate that book. I will keep looking. In the interim, could you possibly post the corresponding pages with the parts description for the numbers on the diagram. I would very much appreciate it if available. Thanks, Dennis
  12. Thanks George, That will help. Is this from the parts manual? Dennis
  13. Hello, I have the repair manual for Studebaker series 20. I do not have the parts manual ( if available.) Does anyone have a exploded view of the transmission? I have some issues that I need to address. Thanks, Dennis
  14. Hello, The junk ring cannot leak water unless the head gasket is leaking. How much moisture? Residue? Oil milky? Do you have a oil rectifier? Functioning properly? Dennis
  15. Bob, Great looking work. How do you get the leather to hold it's shape after you remove them from the die set? Thanks, Dennis
  16. Hey Bob, Please keep the die set if you can. I have the same turn signals as DB 26. NOS still in the box. I may need a set as well. I haven't had time to play with them. DB. Let us know how they work. Thanks, Dennis
  17. Thanks for the replies. I have used Semichrome polish before. Nickel is relatively soft compared to chrome and I always think about aggressive compounds when polishing. Steve< For personal erosion and to combat galvanic reactions, I recommend Woodford Reserve. May not prevent or delay but you don't care as much! Dennis
  18. Hello, Wondering about the favorite polish/protectant for nickel plated trim in good condition. I have tried several with decent results but I'm always concerned about getting too aggressive with nickel. Got a favorite? Dennis
  19. Thanks, Tony is my go to guy for linoleum. Excellent quality. Any idea what the original trim metal looks like? Dennis
  20. Thanks Dave,, That was my thought. Just wondering why I've seen so many in rubber. Were they all gray regardless of car color? Dennis
  21. Hello, Did the 25 Dodge Brothers touring have linoleum or rubber mats on the running board? I have seen both. If rubber what style? Ribbed, Pyramid, etc.? Any body have a picture of the original trim metal? Thanks, Dennis
  22. What is the diameter of the Waltham stem wind? Thanks, Dennis
  23. 37 Cadillacs center piece is the same front and rear. Hubcap and bumper medallions are the same size and attachment. I would expect Lasalle to be the same. Dennis
  24. Oldford thanks for the heads up. Jon, I sent you a PM. Thanks for the input. Dennis
  25. Jon, Is there a particular carburetor that you would recommend. I have been looking for a correct replacement since before Hershey and have not come up with anything. I kind of get the idea that your not a big fan of the Penberthy anyway. Thanks, Dennis
