Only in the very early years 1909-1910 was a Landaulet and a Towncar available. 1919 was the last year of a Ford offered Towncar, by then it may have had the solid back, documentation on these is very thin. These bodies were made by outside suppliers and by the end of Ford involvement most sales were to the commercial trade rather than luxury. A switch to perhaps cheaper, definitely more waterproof and modern styled construction was inevitable. This/these are most likely Ford sold chassis with aftermarket body as you originally suggested. Ford did a good business in chassis only, in fact the first 5 years of truck production was chassis only, The body manufacturer to Ford would surely would have continued on making bodies ( updated), buying chassis from Ford and selling taxi type service vehicles.

So a question remains... Are the 2 NYC pictures of the same car? Same tire treads, accessory rear bumper ( with chain and lock to spare tire) and probably same license plate and replacement tail lamp.

Yes a Ford offered body. By 1915 more of these were used as a taxi than a chauffeur driven "towncar".

Splitdorf aircraft ignition switch for engine with both a distributor and a magneto ( 2 spark plugs per cylinder), from the 1920s and still in good shape ready to run. Will of course work for one distributor OR one magneto! Asking $235.
