1. CA Kustoms, Any good glass place can duplicate a piece you take to them. Some places have templates. It doesn't sound like you need your glass to have the correct "bug" on it. (EEZEYE is the bug) Thickness shouldn't be an issue. I will tell you what I tell everybody else. Find the old dude smokin' a cigar, been there since 1949, politically incorrect, type shop. Take care of mom and pop, and they'll take care of you. Those guys always do. Mike
2. Slow down Mr. Earl, Blame Thriller. This came from the North. Mike Middleton (two d's)
3. Austin Texas is closed for this. Some snow. Mostly ice. But I was able to light a fire under my "veranda" in front of my garage and sip some Christmas Irish whiskey (Midleton's extra rare). [/image] [/image] [/image]
4. Hey Bill, I think if you go to the locksmith on the "old" side of town, they can make your (door/ ignition) cylinders match up. I've found that it's much easier to have what you already have work rather than finding something unknown, then having to fix that too. So... take the ignition and door locks to the locksmith and have them deal with it. Mike
5. Hey Pete, That parts car will cost you a bunch less than trying to find all of the parts separately... trust me, I shoulda done that. Congrats on the kitty by the way, although I know you don't necessarily need another project. Mike
6. Thanks Mr. Earl, that's beautiful. Among the things Woody, my 3 1/2 year old son wanted for Christmas this year, the one that stood out to me was the "transmission for his hot rod". Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everybody. Mike

After all, we seem to keep the best records for ourselves and usually know how long we've been in a club.

Kris, That's actually a cool idea for a local chapter fundraiser. Celebrate is a really good word for it. I wish i had thought of it. I realize it's not official, but like I said, it would be (at the least) an interesting conversation starter. I still think somebody should bring back the license plate frames. I would like to put one on my truck...not a Buick, true, but I can't think of a good reason to be advertising for a car dealer. Mike
8. Willis, The main reason I even thought about it was I just renewed my membership and I was trying to figure out if I had hit twenty years yet. It is obviously not important, just more of a neat thing. Mike
9. Hi everybody, I just was slapping a coat of primer on my house when I remembered that I was going to get a membership for my father for Xmas this year as thanks for navigating my last two trips to the Nationals. Am I getting old and forgetful, or did I just imagine we used to have a lifetime membership? Like Mr. Earl's marble story, I would think we could somehow average out the age and figure out a cost. It would be more of a pride thing, maybe a special license plate frame or something. I dunno, maybe it's too snooty. Also, what about putting a "member since" date like Amex or USAA does. Again, more of a pride in membership thang. Just a few thoughts. Mike
10. Bill, I curse you for letting me know about this guy. The only thing keeping me from buying a basket case 55 conv. was the fact that it was on an Impala frame. Well, that and I can't afford it right now. But.......... First I'd buy a 64-66 Riviera with bucket seats I could steal. How about covering the seats in red 55 upholstery fabric with silver threads in it, instead of some tacky mauve tweed, there's a concept. Bi#chin. Then I would take out the Nailhead 401 in it with a turbo tranny. Dress up the engine compartment with chrome valve covers, and the spark plug covers from a 55. They have adapters that you can "allegedly" bolt right on. Put a dual four setup on it with the factory air cleaner. Power steering is also a dream from the mid 60's. Paint it black with white below the trim, and you will run away with a heap of trophies, and have a good time doing it. It's gotta look like it could have come like that. That is my key to a good looking custom. Mike
11. Dang, For 75 grand maybe a brother could afford a leaf blower. Nice car. 54 Skylark. Top of MY wishlist. Mike
12. Well, I guess I owe you yet another beer. I believe Fireball V8 does, too. I know he probably will buy 5 for various projects. I only need one. OK, I guess I don't really NEED it. Dogonnit. Mike
13. Hey Tom, I redid the entire front end on my 55 and nothing changed until I took the centerlink apart and re-lubed it and tightened it to factory specs. I still drive my car on bias ply tires (actually about 2500 miles round trip to the nationals this year) and was thrilled at the difference was with the centerlink rebuild. I had considered putting radials on it, but I don't feel I need to anymore. It drives great and looks right. All I did was pull it (per the shop manual) clean everything really well, and re lube and reinstall it. Huuuuuge difference. I would at least pay attention to this part of the front end. Along with the other guys suggestions about front end alignment. Good luck, Mike
14. Hey Roberta, Do you have any knowledge about whether they are going to bring back the Suburban in diesel form? I loved working out of my Suburban, but I drive a small pickup now due (in small part) to how much gas the 'burban drank. I have access to biodiesel here in Austin, and was thinking about switching to a diesel to actually run cleaner emissions-wise. Mike
15.

Quote:

My 55 Century convertible is as stable or more stable than my 55 4dr hardtops. Willie

I can say that I agree with Old Tank's assessment of the 55 convertible stability. This is the earliest convertible I have ever driven. After going to a judged car show this past Saturday and finally going head to head with my 55 Special (and coming in second), he let me drive with the top down as a consolation prize. On a two lane back road he pulled over to let me pass (he was driving my car (p.s. kinda fast around corners)) I had to let off the gas, not because of the cars stability, but because of the bias ply tires. I believe I was going about 85 MPH. Very solid. Very smooth. I know my 63 convertible is very solid and stable feeling at higher speeds also. So...Thanks Willie for the thrill. Mike
16. Alex, You are going to have to rinse it out after it comes back from the radiator shop anyway. The place that boiled mine out put some solution ( I think trans fluid mixed with something) to prevent further rust and when I sealed the tank with (shoot, I forget which brand) sealer it pealed off in sheets. I then sent off the tank to get the renu system installed (sprayed). It works like new, but they didn't bang out the dents and it doesn't look like it came from the factory this way. So, after spending $ on boiling, $ on the sealer, $ on shipping, $ on the renu system, $ on the return shipping, I probably have well over $600 in my gas tank. YAY. I would find the best one you can buy and not seal it with anything. Just my two cents. Mike
17. Hey Tom, Call Ken at Wheatbelt Auto, I bet he has a manifold. 580-855-2449. Mike
18. I don't know if it was an exact match on Bill's new Riviera drivers side floormat. Of course they had "the rake". It was in gardening Mike
19. A.) I dunno B.) I can't wait to see the Riv. Mike

21. Hi guys, Just found a rebuilt 66 Qjet and I will install it in the Wildcat next week when it arrives. I've been acquiring parts for years waiting for the carb. I have a NOS air cleaner, 66 manifold and the aluminum valve covers that I installed yesterday. I was going to attempt to sell the Cat but I don't think I could get what I want out of it so after driving it last week (and totally loving it) I decided to get everything working and drive the snot out of it. I'll let you know if I know if I need sniff tests performed. The choke is currently stuck open so I imagine that could have been part of the problem. I need to figure out the AC so I can enjoy it even more months per year... I'll keep ya posted. Mike

23. That was me coming back from the Nationals after finding out about my non-registration. That's pretty sweet. Mike
