  3. Actually Willis, The above mentioned drummer is me. The flugelhorn is another forum member. BTW, Gatton mostly just wanted to steal the sidespear moldings from my 55 to put on a Ford Kustom he was building. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Mike
  4. Sorry Lamar, I'm retired, actually, just mostly tired. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Mike

Plus I will finally have a car worthy of being judged in time for Flint. So I am being selfish here. </div></div> This is exactly why it needs to be judged. There are members who have worked for YEARS restoring a single car. Bill's car will possibly be a 400 point car by the time it is finished, will it be 392 the next year? Probably not, but it is hard to drive a freshly restored car before it has been judged on a National scale. My opinion, only... Mike
  6. I hear ya Bill, I actually just charged the AC last weekend and took it for a shakedown run on Sunday. It isn't freezing up like it did last year so hopefully it will stay "cool". The outside temp was winning the battle although the AC worked pretty much like I think it is supposed to. (Yes Willie, I had the visors at half mast to get the cool air on my face). I think we are leaving on Tuesday, so I understand we will be bringing up the rear again this year. I did hear about McMaster Carr after I finished my car. See ya. Mike
  7. Forgive me Guy, I just remember when I was making a living as a "rock star" <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I played some festival sponsored by Leinie. I will definitely be thirsty by the time I get up there after the driving the 55 from Texas. I will try the Schell's. See y'all in a few weeks, Mike
  8. Hi Bill, I took all of mine plus a few others to a plater and had them zinc plated. I think with all of the other hood latches, wiper brackets, jack, etc. it was around $200. I wasn't able to find the double star (inner/ outer grabbing points) anywhere. Of course any very visible bolts got the best original ones and the hidden ones got new "regular" hardware from Lowe's, a surprisingly well stocked hardware section. Mike So what car did your pop finally accept as his ride to Rochester?
  9. Gee Whiz Mr. Earl, What contractor is hosing you this year? I was hoping to buy you some suds. Leinenkugel's, I believe, is the local(ish) brew. (That's right, I know the local beers everywhere dangit). Mike

I can never find anything when I have to go. </div></div> That sounds more like you are talking about the hospital restroom. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> Just kiddin' Mike
  11. Mr. Earl, Another reason to vote for Bill is the fact that he know's how to use a computer unlike one of the other candidates. We need a guy who is enthusiastic about new technology as well as the other attributes you mentioned. Bill gets my vote as well. (Oh well, so much for steering away from my stand on politics on the forum <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />) Mike
  12. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Keep several envelopes with applications in your glovebox of EVERY car you drive, even your daily driver, that way you always have one handy. </div></div> That's a good idea Keith. I think I will xerox a few copies and keep them in my car for future shows. Unfortunately, I have only met ONE person with a Buick at any of the car shows I have ever attended who was not already a member. Buicks are always woefully underrepresented at the local shows. Mike
  13. Jake, I'm about to sell my Wildcat, probably on ebay, and I plan to pay for the buyers first year in the BCA. I think that the $30 +/- that I will pay will be hopefully be a lifetime membership in the making. I am going to make it MY responsibility to bring a new member on board. I feel it is a small price to pay. Mike
  14. Hi Chief, I used Chevy back window clips when I redid my 55 Special. They were close enough to work, although not a perfect match. I got mine from Danchuk Chevy. You might want to check Cadillac suppliers since the Super is the bigger body style. Hope this helps. Mike
  15. Adam, I'm cool with using a guest bedroom for storing parts, but I'd get a whoopin' if I didn't take the nice comforter off first. Mike
  16. Hi guys, I am currently working on a 60 Electra 4 dr. flattop for a friend of mine. He wants seatbelts, along with a bunch of other stuff. The only thing I have a question on so far (YAY) is: has anyone ever mounted seatbelts in a bench seat car, more specifically one that has the fabric that wraps around the bottom, essentially making it a one piece seat? Also, (opinions here) do I run the outer belt outside the seat or up through the middle (outer edge) of the seat. I have mounted seatbelts in my 63 and my 55 is next. FYI http://www.julianos.com has some great looking lap belts with the chrome lift lever. Thanks, Mike
  17. Well, between the three of us, I think we have use for at least a dozen Mike
  18. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I dont know who I pissed off with my driving but they shot the trailer. </div></div> Bill, That car is really giving you fits, huh? I don't know what the woodie did in it's former life, but Somebody doesn't want it to get finished. Mike
  19. Bill and Willie, I hope your trip is more successful than the Nationals trip. Cuz you can't bail each other out this time. Just kidding, sounds like fun. Mike
  20. capgage, Hi there. You should come to the Buick and Bluebonnets show in Salado on April 8th. I will be trying to get a bunch of Buicks to caravan up. I would love to see your 58. Mike
  21. Hi Joe, Technically it is a loop, but Keith's assessment of neeplepoint looking is very accurate. It is a very tight, short weave. If normal loops are maybe 3/16 " this one is closer to 1/16". Again, I'm not sure if that is accurate for your car but I would imagine it is. Also you really have to look for it. The $129 carpets that some companies sell will cover your floor and look good but if you are going for originality you have to ask for Daytona weave specifically. I think the price is about double that, so that can also be a factor. I can guarantee that cut pile is definitely wrong though. Mike
  22. Hi Joe, I'm not sure if it was available in 1953, but the 55's had Daytona Weave. This is available now, I have it in my 55. It costs more, but it looks much better than either of those other two carpets you just mentioned. I got mine from http://www.classicroad.com. The owners name is Rolf, really nice guy. It fit perfectly and is 100 times better looking than the loop pile I installed about 10 years ago. (not because of age) Mike
  23. I honestly don't know what the trans linkage looks like on the 64 -66 when they stopped using the Dynaflow. I have a 66 manifold that you are supposed to be able to use the one year only Q-Jet carb for but I have never been able to get a definitive answer from anyone on how to readjust the linkage from my car( a 63) to the later trans. linkage, or vice-versa. I really want to use the manifold with this setup for (allegedly) better mileage and much better performance in general. I had heard the same thing about Dynaflows for years and I believed it because I had my 55 Special with the 264 engine in it. The engine wasn't running it's best. The carb needed help, the timing was off, and I think I had a plug loose. When I bought my Wildcat with a freshly rebuilt 401 (the only good thing about the Wildcat at that time) and the balding tires it came with...I smoked 'em. After the restoration of my 55, with the linkage properly adjusted it performs very nicely. I will try to get a picture within the next week of my linkage for you. How is your gas mileage? My 63 gets maybe 12-13mpg. (Premium gas). Mike
  24. Hi Bill, I have a retirement account, just not the kind of account with 20 grand to spare in it. Although if you could solve that problem.... Thanks, Mike ps. I was actually trying to do a 401K / $20k joke.
