I HAVE BEEN TOO BUSY ASSEMBLING MY REBUILT H - V12 TO CHECK, BUT DID I MISS THE LATEST ISSUE? OR DID MY MEMBERSHIP EXPIRE? MR. LYNCH
-
I would especially like to know how it goes ; I'll be putting the V12 back in my '41 Cabriolet this spring. It came out THREE years ago - I pulled the engine and transmission separately - Did not have to do anything with the rear axle. Mike Lynch

THANKS JIM - BOUGHT IT

I JUST PICKED UP MY INTAKE MANIFOLD FROM HAVING IT DIPPED/CLEANED AND IT IS JUNQUE!! LOTS OF CRACKS (That the previous "resotoration shop" filled with JB WELD) Now I know why the engine used so much oil! Anyway, I am now searching for a replacement - POST WAR - GOOD CONDITION - The block is a 1942 bored 60 over. ANYONE?? Mike Lynch

I DO LIKE THAT HE ADDED "IT WAS A GREAT RUNNING CAR BEFORE THE RESTORATION"

I JUST SEARCHED AND FOUND THE EARLIER DISCUSSION ON CRANKCASE VENTILLATION.

In the June 1994 TWOZ , Jake Fleming wrote an article about diverting the oil draining from the oil pump gear housing , supposedly to prevent too much from getting into cylnders #11 & #12. HAS ANYONE EVER PUT THIS DRAIN TUBE IN THEIR ENGINES?? I am now reassembling my V12 , and would like to know. Also , anyone tried anything for better crankcase ventilation?? ANYONE ??????

I have drawings and parts list for this hot air heater system, as my father bought all the parts for it some 20 years ago. As I am STILL assembling my H V12 , I have all the parts out of the car, and can provide pictures if needed. Mike Lynch

Thank you both for the quick replies. As I have no local machine shop to go with the rope-type seal, I will have to use the original method. Is there anyplace to get instructions for this seal?

I AM FINALLY INSTALLING THE CRANKSHAFT IN MY REBUILT BLOCK ; AFTER WAITING OVER TWO YEARS TO HAVE THE CRANK GROUND AND POLISHED. I NOTICED TWO "DINGS" IN THE REAR OIL SLINGER (see pics). 1) Will this affect a good oil seal? 2) How in the heck do you replace this seal?I have the seal inclded with the gasket kit from E. Brown. ANY HELP APPRECIATED Mike Lynch

MY BLOCK IS REBORED AND HOME - TIME FOR VALVES

I REALLY THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE MORE RESPONSE ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I AM MOVING ON

I have that same original bulletin. - That No. 925 Tool was used not only for the H V12 but for the Ford 4 Cylinder,6 cylinder and V8's. , so one would think there would still be some of them around. I found the valve removal tool (No. 917) by checking out several OLD machine shops, but have yet to find the replacement tool.
-
I am progressing on my V12 rebuild. Does anyone have a K-D No. 925 Valve Guide Replacing tool for sale or rent??? I am using newer one-piece valve guides with neoprene seals. ANY HELP??
-
NOW I know why it was so @#$%$#@ difficult to remove the valves from my "original" engine. Attached are pics of the "keepers" I had to remove versus the keepers I received with my new block. MUST HAVE BEEN FROM A v-8 as they are thicker AND wider. ANY HELP ON THIS ???

I DON'T THINK THAT THE GEARSETS WERE THE SAME FROM 39-48. I know for a fact that the gears that were originally in my '41 are a different tooth-count in the post-war models. This has been covered in earlier posts .......but I CANT find it!! Mike Lynch

THANKS TOM! TODAY, I COULDN'T AFFORD EITHER ONE OF THEM AND REBUILD MY V-12. THE LINCOLN WAS MY FATHER'S PRIDE AND JOY, AND IS NOW MINE. THE CADILLAC I BOUGHT 34 YEARS AGO FOR USE AS A COLLEGE "BEATER". AND YES, I COULDN'T HAVE ENDED UP WITH TWO BETTER-SYLED CARS !! MIKE LYNCH
-
SPEAKING OF CADILLAC / LINCOLN , SINCE MY '41 CONTINENTAL IS ENGINELESS, I HAD TO RESORT TO MY OTHER VEHICLE TO ATTEND A WEDDING (1200 miles round trip) and the '49 CLUB COUPE PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY. ...............AND, yes I KNOW THIS IS AN hv12 WEBSITE

Thanks - IT WAS GREAT TO SEE THAT CAR AGAIN. WHAT AMAZES ME (IF YOU LOOK AT THE 2ND PHOTO I TOOK) IS THAT THE 20+ YEAR-OLD PAINT STILL HAS THE RELECTION QUALITY ON THE DOOR PANEL. THIS IS THE LAST SUMMER I AM SPENDING WITHOUT A RUNNING V12. I FINALLY FOUND AND BROUGHT HOME A DECENT BLOCK, ONLY TO DISCOVER IT IS A 1942 BLOCK!!! (ORIGINAL LARGEST BORE) IT HAS BEEN MAGNAFLUXED - NO CRACKS, BUT THERE IS ONE CYLINDER THAT HAS SOME DEEP PITTING (LOW IN THE BLOCK) - i DON'T QUITE KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THAT ! ? MIKE LYNCH
