I finally finished the rebuild and installation of the h- V12 on the '41 Cabriolet. It had some nice company in the shop were it was done. Thanks to all who helped , especially Mr. Peecher , for all his wisdom and guidance.

1940 LZ MODEL O6H-76 ON EBAY, LAST ONE BUILT??
1941 replied to Mssr. Bwatoe's topic in Lincoln & Zephyr
That appears to be a 1941 steering wheel. Where does that panel that says Lincoln Zephyr come from? (as in where on the car?) Very interesting. -
Perfect timing as I am now installing the rebuilt engine in my '41 Continental. A few years ago there was an article in TWOZ which about replacing the old style filter element with a WIX paper filter, and I am about to try it, as my late father's car is going to be DRIVEN. (a Lot) Pictured is the original element which is heavy mesh copper? or bronze in a protective screen mesh. The next shots are of the complete assembly. Mssr. Bwatoe has said he tried this and it didn't work for his car, but I'm going to give it a shot. More to follow as I install the engine Mike

I just took the hood off of my '41 Continental yesterday . Unfortunately it is 20 miles from here in a shop, and I will not be over there until Tuesday , when I can take a photo of it and send. The rebuilt engine is going in soon!

I am getting my rebuilt block ready to install ; just received rebuilt coil and water pumps from Skip. My old (cracked) block had some homemade? baffles in it cut from brass shim stock. Do I need these or any CORRECT baffles??

After four long years, I am ready to put A H-V12 Engine in my 41 Continental. not THE engine, but an engine. Before first acquiring the car from my dad's estate, it had been shown many times, always with the words "original engine" in the description. In 2010 , after I pulled the engine to rebuild it, and after reading George Trickett's excellent piece on dating engines, I realized that my '41 had a '46 block. It was at this point I realized that the engine number is stamped on the bellhousing of the TRANSMISSION and nowhere on the block itself. After finding out the block was beyond (in my mind) repair, I sought out a "period correct" block. I bought a "1941" block from the late Jim Edison , which turned out to be a 1942 Block (not his fault), which I then proceeded to rebuild, using the 26H heads which came from the old 1946 block. In conclusion , I believe that very few engine blocks remain in their original cars, simply because without regular maintenance, the engines wore out quickly. Also, the heads probably are not the ones that came with the block when it was built. And THEN there is the hunt for the rear transmission mount for a 40-41 WITHOUT the borg-Warner overdrive!!

I bought my radials from Coker - slim profile, looks very close to original size tires. AMAZING difference over bias. installed in 2007. NO TUBES ; NO problems over the past 4,000 miles. Mike 41 Cabriolet

The Cadillac museum is also going up right across the street ; both should be done about the same time. They don't have a progress webcam, but their photos of the Cadillac bldg. construction shows much better views of the Lincoln Museum.

You had asked where the photo was taken - NOT my sale, just saw it there

FIRST off, I am not saying this is correct, but here's how I did it.Engine first, then gearcase. I did NOTHING to the rear axle. I removed the trans. cover from the floorboard for access to the gearcase-to-engine bolts and for disconnecting the shifting. I put a piece of (I Had maple) wood to support the gearcase on the front "wishbones" I pulled the engine with the "cherry-picker" on the SIDE of the car', rolling the car backwards after it was high enough to clear the front grille. I then raised the gearcase and slid it out forward. I am about to now do the reverse and install it. This engine did NOT have the Borg-Warner overdrive; factory Columbia rear end. Mike Lynch

On a more serious note, are you two planning on going to Gilmore Aug 9-10? You were both there for the groundbreaking....... I am desperately trying to get my '41 ready after the engine rebuild. Hard to believe that I pulled the engine May 2008 . TIME FLIES

VERY odd looking automobile. Too bad the data plate is conveniently missing from the firewall. I doubt that Lincoln would do this "factory" job as it totally destroys the flowing lines of the original. Just my opinion.

When I had to disassemble my '41 V-12 , someone had used FORD keepers , and must have had to pound them in, As I took me forever to remove them with a hammer and pliers. The correct ZEPHYR keepers fit easily upon reassembly.

The flat lenses were EARLY 1941 . My Continental has the flat lenses and is body #90. Mike Lynch

Does anyone know what happened to the museum cam showing the construction of the Lincoln Museum at Gilmore. It was interesting watching the progress - Been down for two weeks now , as well as the MICH region LCOC site. ????
