  1. I'll see what I can do Rolf, and thanks for the hearty congrats. Noise sounded good, oil pressure? there is supposed to be oil pressure? Smoke? Only ran the thing for about 30 seconds, what with pouring gas down it's throat and slapping on the back and all. Geeeeeeeeeez. No oil leaks, of course that would require oil in the crankcase I suppose. I'm just pleased that the starter problem seems to be solved and I can see you are overjoyed as well.
  2. spins good, coughs good and fired to life. Fuel pump not pumping, hotwired ignition, used 12 volts BUT IT RUNS and sounds pretty good for the short test run. Now, send ignition off to Jake, get a fuel pump rebuild kit or diaphram, carberator rebuild kit, dress it out and put it all back together. IT RUNS!!! Mount up the radiator and cooling system, engine fan, thermostats, rewire the engine compartment and detail it out a bit. Oh by the way, IT RUNS!!! turns ok with 6 volts but really well with 12. Fuel pump rod was sticking, it goes up and down now but pump doesn't have alot of suck and push to it so I should rebuild it I think. The problem was the starter drive. The body of the old drive hit the flywheel-wrong drive! IT RUNS!! exhaust leaks and all!
  3. Testing, Testing, 1,2,3, wha wha this thing on? Testing
  4. In Floriduh, it's $1.00 per tire when puchase of new tire or new vehicle. $2.00 when turning in tires so a net of $3.00 per tire if you pulled into a tire store, bought new tires and left your old ones for them to dispose of. The story of the pig farmers tires was missing something. Steel belts. Now they have a machine that rips the steel belt out of the tire, mix the remaining compound with chemicals and pounding a bit and end up with a foam like substance used for playgrounds, state parks and ground cover. The money charged won't cover the expense but the generous Fla taxpayers supplement the rest. Some money for this effort is also obtained or was by an impact fee on vehicles entering the state from somewhere else thus causing a net add to the vehicle population. We used to cook a garbage stew for our pigs too, but I think we fueled with wood mostly. Can't take tires to the dump because the suckers just won't stay buried! A strange mixture of chewed up tires and broken glass is used in some areas for roadways. for all those clear hooters fans, replace above tire(s) with tyre(s)

OK?? Rolf </div></div> O.K. just got back from the starter repair shop, they have installed a different drive, hopefully the correct one. I will start a new thread as Rolf has requested telling everyone how things worked out. I am going out tommorrow to get the started off the donor V12 and will match what it has with what I now have. I believe it is a 48 as well. Thanks all, new thread will probably be : <span style="font-weight: bold">at a gain with V12 </span> David
  6. Very well said, and if we are to learn the real reason(s) behind the subject of this thread I may be so inclined to put fingers to keys. I am a bit old fashioned though in that I would like to know the allegations being leveled in the lawsuit before I write to Ford or maybe to Obsolete Ford. Just because they are big doesn't make them wrong.

  8. Mike, are those regular snow tires or are they studded? 10 bids in 4 hours with 9 days 20 hours to go. This could be a barn burner!
  9. Mike, Carleton was responding to Bob, 1937HD. Not referring to your car but to the one 1937HD was inqiuring about that used to be in the afore mentioned collection. Take no offense. If you look at Crabbys post you will see he is referencing his post to 1937HD...RE: 1937HD. Also note that 1937HD45 was asking the question of Mr. Crabby RE: OLD CRABBY. (name well deserved and He takes personal pride in the attitude) Dave

Continue to be confused and speculate about the problem, and have a lot of fun, but when you want to know the answer, turn to pages 180 and 181 in the Chassis parts Catalog where they even have pictures of the early and late starter drives, they are very different, and the early one pre '47 is a model A Ford unit, but that's OK, refuse to look at the facts, just like some political types, it is the American Way, Rolf </div></div> Rolf, please never and I mean NEVER try to confuse us with the facts! If people like you were around Moses would have wandered for only about 6 months and then the whole story would be screwed up! Theres Rolf and his buddies in the corner with their Rand McNally 1295 B.C. version and a compass along with the chassis parts manual for an egyptian classic 1382 B.C. phaeton. Geeeeeezzzzz

Could be the end of the free world as we know it!
  13. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Dave, Yes the 5EH is important. It means that the part is post war, the 5 standing for l945. The earlier part number is B ll350 which started in l932 and was used up until l947. The change over date was probably April l947 when the early 47's lost their 46 parts and became late 47's with 48 parts. I don't think the 5EH part will fit the earlier starter and vice versa. Bill </div></div> Which would probably make null and void, Gary's research as follows: "Digging a little deeper my 1950 NAPA catalogue shows a Balkamp #BL-10F starter drive fits 1932 to 1950 (as late as this book goes) Ford/Merc car and truck V8 and also 1936 to 1949 Lincoln - Zephyr. Manufacturers # <span style="font-weight: bold">B-11350</span> " oh well it's the effort I appreciate, and I really do. Thank You

We are not a politically organized minority or special interest group, so we are invisible. Your letter will either go into the big round file or at best get a response with form letter #264 from some low level clerk. hvs </div></div> now Howard, you need to work on that negative attitude of yours. I am sure that FoMoCo is quite pleased to hear from their adoring public and torch barers for their previous generation(s) of product. Have that prescription refilled and smile brother smile. better living through chemistry.
  15. My illustrious chassis parts catalog (see CBOZ) says the drive for 1947-48 Lincoln Continental is Ford # 5EH11350. There was another drive for 1946-1947, don't know where the split in 1947 occurred. I think the danger is that 11350 is like a base number and the 5EH becomes VERY important. Dave If there is too much confusion, I have a friend with a donor car that I have agreed to purchase the remains of the engine when He is thru, I will run to said car with wrenches in hand and release the imprisoned starter.
  16. Removed the starter and looked it over, took it back to the starter rebuild place and they came up with the thought that the starter is fine, but it has the wrong drive. This conclusion is due to marks that indicate it was going to far inward and jamming in the ring gear. It would get stuck from time to time, and I would bar the engine over until it let go. Well they were trying to figure out what drive I need (I will call them tommorrow and tell them that Lincoln calls out a 5EH11350 for the '48. Diz 2 quickies: my ex-wife borrowed her fathers mercedes while in high school, and to be sure to stay in his favor, before returning it filled it with gas and oil,,,,I mean filled it with oil to the top of the oil fill in the valve cover. Car never recovered. : When I worked at Freightliner of Portland @ 1977 78, we took on the Volvo Diesel Truck franchise. First cold days, untrained how to start with glow plug type manifold preheaters, spray some starting fluid in the air intake, turn on the key and find that the Volvo had exposed electric coils in the intake manifold that fired up with the key turned to the on position in cold weather to preheat incoming air--the explosion removed the manifold like a pro.
  17. Neat stuff, I love looking at old specs and manuals. Dave
  18. Tampa to Denver via NYC. Time to pump out the bilges I'd say, seem to be listing to starboard a bit. Maybe a screw loose somewhere vearing to the right too much! Dave
  19. No, No, for the $300.00 bidding fee and guarantee of funds to bid (minimum guarantee $200,000.00) you save the $25.00 admission fee and get: Bidder ID/Paddle (Four Day Adult Admission) Guest Credential (Four Day Adult Admission) Preferred Parking Pass in Reserved Parking Area Reserved Seating for Two in the Main Auction Pavilion Hosted Bidder Bar throughout the Event Invitation for Two to the Designer Fashion Show Two Invitations to the Opening Night Gala Access to the Hagerty Lounge The paddle alone should be worth $300.00.
