  7. DETROIT, Jan. 6--Last night at the Detroit Opera House, Cadillac unveiled two stunning concepts. The first was the XV16 concept engine--a 1000-hp 1000-ft.-lb. 13.6-liter (830-cu.-in.) 16-cylinder monster. <span style="font-weight: bold">The 32-valve V16 features Displacement On Demand and can run on a mere four cylinders under light load, eight under moderate load or all 16 for maximum thrust</span>. GM says it can deliver 22 mpg using this technology. Cadillac was the first manufacturer to produce a V16 in the Thirties and the beautifully crafted XV16 is a fitting tribute to that heritage. Also paying tribute to that heritage and providing a home for the XV16 is the Cadillac Sixteen concept car. Built by hand to emulate the handcrafted cars of Cadillac's glory years, the Sixteen is arguably the star of this show so far. http://popularmechanics.com/automotive/auto_technology/2003/4/cadillac_sixteen/print.phtml

Somebody just paid over $400,000 for a 1938 Lincoln Zephyr! I can't believe he NEEDED it, but he sure must have WANTED it! </div></div> That's absolutely right. Now someone buy the following and then part it out and sell me the steering wheel for $20.00. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6306&item=2476928677&rd=1
  9. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">...snip... It was an interesting and advanced concept and could probably be made to work with today's electronics. Surprising no carmaker has revived it... I was just reading in C & D that the new Dodge Magnum sedan will disable an entire cylinder bank, but it's a hydraulic control via a dedicated oil line that holds the intake and exhaust valves closed until oil pressure is increased (ie you "step on it") and the valves re-open. Neat, and no electronic wizardry. Andy </div></div> Caddy is touting the introduction of their 16 cyl 1,000 HP engine when they can find a nose to stick it under. Also claiming a computer model 21+ mpg highway. It will do that by dropping all the way down to 4 cyl on highway cruise
  10. Wow those are beautiful. In fact I went to place my bid until I saw where the bid was. Poor LC owner
  11. and they resurrected te idea in a new Mr Clean car wash commercial that is airing now.

I do not know the answer of your problem off hand but I suspect someone will shortly. Is it a 6 volt system? If so you may need a new 6 volt battery. Also check all of the negative grounds to be sure they are tight, and clean. Battery cables are also a large source of problems if old. Be sure to get the proper gauge, like 1 or 00. They are really thick, and if you have trouble finding them, I can recommend the following : I was looking for a new woven, 6 volt negative cable for the '47 Cadillac. I found it, 19" long, at Antique Battery Co., Inc. Hudson Ohio. If you are looking for authentic batteries and equipment try these folks. They were a big help to me. (330) 425-2395. Their catalog lists batteries for Packards, Lincolns including Mopar, and Mercury. I hope that helps a little. Good luck. </div></div> Randall, He was asking about the position of the ignition switch, you know 10 o'clock, high noon and 2 o'clock. Then you set him up to buy batteries, cables, authentic equipment........you'll scare the poor guy away!

  16. There isn't any sentiment with these decisions. Volvo dropped AutoCar, the oldest North American truck name tag without a tear (Whitw too for that matter). Plymouth (1927-2000), Olds(1897-2004), Camaro (now that's a real brain teaser), probably Mercury is next. in 1938, the first fully automatic transmission was introduced on an Olds. In the 1920s, Oldsmobile was the first car to use chrome-plated trim instead of nickel. The first high compression overhead valve V-8 was to be found in a 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88, available for the first time in a pillarless hardtop. In 1966, Olds introduced the radical, front-wheel-drive Toronado. In 1974 Olds was the first U.S. manufacturer to offer air bags as an option. Sales peaked in 1985 at 1.2 million cars; at one time, the Olds Cutlass was the most popular model of all U.S. cars. In November 2003, AutoWeek reported that GM was not using the Pontiac name to promote the new Australian-built GTO performance model. It will simply be known a The GTO. The last time they did this was when the Aurora was introduced without an Oldsmobile moniker. And look what happened to Aurora and Oldsmobile! Gone! Come away Lucille ?cause if I may Lucille I want to take you for my bride, And we?ll chug along and always sing a song as down the road of life we fly. Even though my car is old and squeaky now it?s better than a horse or train. When I pull the throttle out and put her into third you think you?re in a plane. To the church we?re heading for a quiet wedding then I?ll crank her up and take the wheel. And away we?ll go my honey, they will know my honey that our love is real. You can go as far you like with me, in my merry Oldsmobile, My merry Oldsmobile. ? Gus Edwards.
  17. you can do a yahoo search for "inductive sensors pavement" and come up with more than you ever wanted to know. there are sensors that send road surface conditions, if the road is wet or dry, then coupled with stations to read temperature they can advise for ice. They have twin sensors as you describe with one of the two able to be heated. If the sensors read they are dry, then the heat turned on the one results in a wet reading they know the sensors are covered by snow..... Who thinks up this stuff? If you've got a couple hours to kill go to the collision countermeasures systems taskforce report (whew!!) http://www.its.dot.gov/jpodocs/repts_te/1w001!.htm#I11
  18. Tin X In my humble opinion the hobby in its many forms is founded in saving tin from extinction, not producing brand new cars made of plastic. Anyone can go to a Chevy showroom for that. Its like some of the "classic" cruise ins and parking lot shows. New Corvettes, PT Cruisers, late model cars with suspension and graphics. Nothing classic there.
  19. Is it the one with all the money taped to the underside of the floorboards?
