  1. yeah, just as I thought, cheap knock off worth next to nothing type stuff. I should withdraw my offer but I'm a man of my word, I'll pay the freight to get them out of your way and into mine.
  2. o.k. unload an entire can of ether into the carb, then use the 10 foot wooden match?
  3. Keep in mind that Mr Jackson is no dummy. The schedule for the ramp is predicated on the high end cars to be seen on Speed channel. A few good deals is like one good golf shot to a golfer, brings them back or there for the first time. You hit it right on the head, the guy in the yellow jacket got to be on t.v., 4.2 minutes of fame. The guys with the microphones and the cameras did not hurt the idiots from overbidding. I have never been to one of these auctions but hope to attend the Fort Lauderdale version coming up. I won't be bidding, but hopefully will see some good deals on the ramp and outside when the lights are turned off for the cameras. I also agree about the tears shed. I think the Zephyr is a beautiful car but there were over 49,000 of them produced in 37 and 38 and another 21,000 in 1939. Not exctly a Model A but not hens teeth either.
  4. A friend of mine has a 1947 streetrod chevy pickup with everything and I mean suicide doors, molded in visor, all leather, murals on toneau cover...the works. At last count it was in about 32 magazines, the t-shirt & commemerative mug & dash plaque car for Goodguys 2002 Orlando, has about 6 covers of magazines - not local yahoo stuff but the real deal one of Rod and Customs top 100. No one wants to touch it because it's been overexposed. Everyone has seen it, old news. I know rodders that want to buy vehicles done, and go accross the country to buy so it is new to their area. The day your car is done and the new paint is buffed and polished is the best day of its life and at its highest value in your lifetime. (my opinion) I don't think the Zephyr would have gone anywhere near what it did at auction had it been voted Americas most beautiful streetrod three or four years ago. It shouldn't have gone for as much as it did anyway but
  5. DeSoto Frank, the only Desoto they listed in Scottsdale was as you guessed, 1952 Hemi convert. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/scottsdale/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=175730 above is the $400K Zephyr

You want to sell them? should be cheap, I've heard those heads from down under are ussually bargain basement priced! I might take them off your hands for the freight to send them to me and get them out of your way. Dave (rolf, stay out of this! )

  10. do you have air for the air bags? gotta lift it up a bit before we wrap the chain around the front crossmember! if I remember, that Zephyr has a pretty stout rear bumper, lets just push it! Dave
  11. image button below while you write your message. the list next to the smiley faces. [color:\\"blue\\"] just figured the color thingy. maybe maybe not ...........NOT
  12. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">David, did you know batteries last longer in northern climates than they do in warmer climates......that's strange </div></div> I would have bet against that one! urban legend? or facts from Interstate, Delco and Sears?
  13. good point! "Oh, and regarding your weather -- SLAP!" sorry I forget sometimes. turned on the a/c in my 1954 chevy truck today. Glad I had added that convienience. I KNOW -- SLAP! Dave
  14. V12Bill, fuel, air and spark and you got yourself a fire! No worries about over simplification, I have looked at most of these suggestions but still want to hear what others are thinking eh? (Canadian outburst, sorry) Here's an added tid bit...the engine turns over better when jumping the solenoid then when putting power directly to the starter via jumper cables / ground. That throws me a bit. have the large cables, worse for wear. solenoid clicks like a banshee (however that is), battery new and charged. Not too worried about the fuel pump and carb at this point, would like the engine to spin and the sparkplugs spark. I did intend on sending the dist/coil to Jake Flemming but I would at least like to hear Her cough first, even if I haver to pour a bunch of gas down the carb and light her off like a rocket with a long wooden match (about a 10 footer). I'll get a new solenoid tommorrow just to say I did something, then try to work thru the problem. thanks, Dave p.s. my problems are always worse than I think they are Bill
  15. Are you selling, buying, looking, in your possession? Of course the price was just raised if you are selling them huh?
  16. I agree, but to a point of sensebility. The dual condensors and distributor and hydraulic power windows are the cool stuff. What kind of oil do you use? Have you searched around to find 30 weight non- detergent gum the works up type oil? Do you use old style got milk, type of brake fluid? Are your spark plugs platinum based? rolled graphite for spark plug wires? genuine looking wiring with cloth surround, but modern wire, not twisted or braided. The looks are what's important (unless someone drives a Honda Element). I love the old technology and wonder at the ingenuity of these men and women to come up with some of the things they did. Always thinking, always inventing, always thinking of a better way...how do you think those same people would build those same cars today, with what would be available to them today? Just some thoughts on a warm Floriduh Sunday afternoon
  17. opened for me Indiana, need to pay your download bill!!
  18. urban legends. did you know that if you leave a battery on a cement floor for a long time the battery will go dead? did you know that if you leave a batery anywhere at all for a long time the battery will go dead? some will swear this is true even battery people If battery is dead in somewhat warmer weather, take battery out of car, place in direct sunlight for about thirty minutes and re-install and try again. may not work but helps kill some time while waiting for the tow truck.
  19. I was referring to this setup see attachment and see the 2 coils
  20. o.k. I have two questions, first why does this thread spread across my screen for twenty feet and second, in the pictures, the V12 has two modern cylindrical ignition coils to replace the 6 volt double ignition coil, what did they use for a distributor? Dave
  21. an update of what car is being disscussed. http://community.webshots.com/photo/65879247/65881477yJMLBL http://community.webshots.com/photo/65879247/65881718wutmnN http://community.webshots.com/photo/65879247/65881798HuRqIv I believe a few things ar undenaly true in this strret rod vs stock thing. The Zephyr is a beautiful platform on which to build. 12 volts are better than 6 a/c is better than hanging your head out the window am raidio is now reserved for community service and non english speaking radials are better than bias seeing in the dark is better than guessing whats that? etc.,etc.,etc Dave
  22. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Dear Dave,CHECK out those grounds, got one from the head to the chassis?diz </div></div> no, have one from positive post of battery to head. Jumping across the solenoid as starter button seems to be missing in inaction, and hotwiring coil because ignition switch tho hot on the constant side does not transfer power to the switchable side when key is turned on. I should run ground from head to frame? or body? used to run one from block to body on other cars for proper operation of guages and stuff. Rambling now, should move along.
  23. Rolf, who ever said it was scrape?? Someone was wondering if it was a Terry Cook car that's all.
  24. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Yo Dave, back to the subject. Wasn't that one of Terry Cook's Zeffers, not a real one? </div></div> Said to be real, customized. The announcers mentioned scrape but not as to ownership, just to fill time I think.
  25. Wife and I are attending the Barrett Jackson auction in Fort Lauderdale in a couple of months. For those interested, just send your money to me (minimum $100,000) and I will give you my cell phone number so you can call me and bid. The amount you send will determine if you get put on hold for someone elses call. otherwise I'll just be watching the silicone babes Howard mentioned, believe me, Ft Lauderdale / Miami has more silicone than that valley out west.
