  1. I don't truly believe EV will completely replace ICE. But I think in 10 years time what powers new cars will be radically different. Some for the good, some... not so good. Either way, change is afoot.

  4. No. We are tainting. (we being people on this forum, and the hobby in general) The AVERAGE person could care less about the romance and history of any automobile. Cars are NOT people's goal, transportation is. The avg person sees them serving a function, thats it. That is as true 25, 50, 75 years ago, as it is now.
  5. no user by that name did you mean mobileparts? https://forums.aaca.org/profile/141479-mobileparts/ Nothing wrong with the acct. have him contact me if you've having login issues. Peter 520-247-5918
  6. Its adds more work for the moderators, and 98% or the time it's not required. Spammers come in waves. Im hoping this is a short term trend that will end soon. (if it hasn't already with the changes I've made)
  7. We've seen over 100 spam accts created in the past 24 hrs. We've updated the signup spam filters to make it harder for them to sneak in. (unfortunately it makes it a little hard for real users to signup too) We've removed over 500 spam posts. We've identified and filtered out about 10 IP address ranges (mostly from India and Indonesia). With any luck we've squashed the attack. NOTE: No, your account privacy is not in danger. I'll keep a close eye on the forums today and play the game Whack-a-mole - bang one spammer down, and another spammer pops up.
  8. For this year's Giving Tuesday, we are asking you to consider making a donation to the Pierce & Case Ritter Fund. As you may already be aware, we lost our Library Director Chris Ritter to a tragic accident back in September. As difficult as it has been without him, the loss to Chris' family is immeasurable. Their hearts will be especially heavy this time of year. Contributing to the scholarship fund is one of the most meaningful ways to honor Chris' memory. His family was his world, and he loved his little boys Pierce and Case dearly. This initiative will ensure his children will have a bright future with a quality education. It's what Chris would have wanted. If you are interested in donating, please send a check made payable to the Pierce & Case Ritter Fund and mail to: Pierce and Case Ritter Fund c/o 800 West Hersheypark Drive Hershey, PA 17033 Rest assured, any and all contributions will go a long way in not only helping Chris' family, but also brightening their spirits this holiday season. Thanks so much for your consideration! #givingtuesday2022
  9. I've found Facebook marketplace to be a cesspool of fake sellers and fake buyers. I recently have been looking for an RV. There are dozens on FB at crazy low prices and they all want to me "email their sister" to get more info. When I tried to give away (free!) some lamps I got a handful of messages that ended up going nowhere. All wanting an email or phone number, but no inquiring about how to pick them up. I've had better success with Craigslist.
  10. Yup. The entire thread broke the forum rules in multiple ways: Not antique car related (regardless that it had "Hershey" in the title). By your own admission you were ranting. Clickbait Politics after the fact (but easily predicable it was gonna go down that path) Sways off topic (after the fact) ALSO: See Golden Rule below. Forum Guidelines Follow the forum rules. Post in the appropriate forum. Write complete topic titles. (no clickbait) When applicable include the year, make and model of vehicle. Follow individual forum guidelines. Stay on the topic of the post. Remember the golden rule. "Before you speak (post or comment) ask yourself if what you are going to say is true, is kind, is necessary, is helpful. If the answer is no, maybe what you are about to say should be left unsaid." - Bernard Meltzer
  11. Here is my take. Clubs have their place and are a great way to get access to car restoration resources like a library and other members with knowledge. There is also the community aspect of a club including local and national tours, shows, outings, food, parties, etc. Declining memberships may be true but I don't think the hobby is diminishing. Participation is simply different. This forum is a perfect example. Not to mention competition between the clubs and other hobbies. You can only spread yourself so thin. YOUNGER MEMBERS: I originally joined the AACA in my mid 20s. Truth: I was the youngest person in the local club until my mid 40s. Sure, it makes sense to recruit younger members. Reality is that regardless of generation, lack of funds and garage space, and the demands of a new family (soccer practice, school, date nights, etc.) and other commitments restrict younger people from participating. TECHNOLOGY: Even within this forum there are complaints about technology. Social media is here to stay and many regional clubs have embraced it for their primary form of communication between members. Also, due to technology, swap meet participation has dwindled since the growth in popularity of Ebay. ATTITUDES: One sure fire way to lose local members is "good old boys" chasing younger members away. These curmudgeons who complain about everything including: "used cars", "modified cars", "over restoration", "no restoration", "doesnt count if you didnt restore it yourself!", "the good old days", "we've always done it this way", etc. (Sound familiar?). Some people just need to give it a rest and let people enjoy the hobby their own way. To each his own. The naysayers have been screaming about the car hobby's demise for years. They are wrong.
