  1. I towed for 10 years using a suburban with the kids in the back seat. I used to feel that "burn" up my spine many times, and the thought of the commute to far away tours literally made me a little sick. Adrenaline burn when passed by tractor trailers, and on those emergency braking situations on limited access highways. I bought a crew cab utility 3500, dually. No more "burn", I love looking at the mammoth brake drums and calipers, both front and back. Suburban got 7 mpg towing, the dually gets 10 towing. Nothing makes it sway. The tool boxes are big enough to carry all the tools, hubs, drums, floor jacks, oil, etc., that one could ever need in a break down. One long tool box is so large that it accommodates all of our luggage, leaving the bed entirely open just in case of a great "find" on the way. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Peace of mind is worth it.

    1927 Franklin Coupe

On a series 11 that has been sitting one must first determine whether any valves are stuck, by pushing down on each valve before you try to turn it over. Failure to do this will result in a broken valve cage. Soak the valves, wait, then press down on each one, one at a time. You can also lightly "strike" each valve with a rubber or leather hammer. Then you are free to attempt to turn it over. Sorry I am so late to the post.
  4. All series 11 are nickle.
  5. Dutch Kern told me to use W14 as the W18 burns too hot. I have them in my car, and they have been in there for 40 years without any issue.

  8. Here is what I found in the AACA Policies and Procedure manual: 4.5.5 Banquets, Receptions, and Meals Complimentary meals should be provided to the AACANational President and spouse and the Tour Chairman. Complimentary meal for the Liaison Director is atthe discretion of the hosting region/chapter. 4.5.7 Accommodations: A complimentary suite or adjoining rooms should be provided to the AACA National President and spouse, when attending a National Tour. This allows the AACA National President to host meetings or small socialgatherings in his room. Complimentary rooms are also to be provided for the Tour Chairman. Complimentary rooms for theLiaison Director and spouse is at the discretion of the hosting region/chapter. Many hotels will provide anumber of complimentary rooms based on the number of room/nights booked. These complimentary roomsmay be used as lodging for the Tour Liaison Director and Tour Chairman or used as a hospitality suite forall participants. If sufficient complimentary rooms cannot be negotiated for the Tour Chairman, the cost forthis room is to be included in the Tour budget. So, all that is rumored is not necessarily untrue.
  9. I heard a very disturbing rumor about Reliability Tours. I hope that this is just a rumor, however I was recently told that the reason the registration fee is so expensive on a Reliability Tour (600.00 on the last Reliability) is because the participants must pay for the officers and brass of the AACA to attend. It was likewise rumored that we paid for their rooms, food and fees. Please tell me that is not possible. It certainly sounds preposterous, but I wanted to check it out. Anyone shed light on this fantastic rumor?

  19. A really warm and engaging, true "gentleman", the kind one doesn't see too often today. He also had a great sense of humor and never appeared to be too much in a hurry, (even if he was) to take time out to say "hello", chat and make one feel important. A great host as well. And a great conservative that loved his country dearly. He will be missed. John Rendemonti
  20. The new tires are definitely fatter than tires of the same size made years ago, without doubt. Try putting sidemount covers on new tires, its a real bugger.
