1. Wanted: 1970 Electra RH front door lock solenoid used okay but must work, or NOS.
jaxops@bellatlantic.net
2. I bought one from Cold Air Products, 4615 Martin St.,Fort Worth, Tx. 76119 and it was perfect.
  3. Your best bet it is advertise it on the BCA or AACA boards. E-Bay can be a great system, but it has drawbacks as well. With something like a car, you have to be sure that you really want to sell it, and you really want to pay E-Bay for the auction. You certainly would want to place a reserve on the car to protect yourself.
E-Bay gives you a LOT of international exposure. The buyers can be quirky. Sometimes things FLY off the auction and sell well. Others just sit there and never make their reserve.
Unless you're positive that you want to auction it, try the boards or Hemmings first. Hemmings also places their ads online, although they are not often updated.
Good luck.
  4. I had bought a molded carpet for my 70 Buick from Kanter, and it doesn't fit well. The center hubs are too large for the car, and had to be padded. I was thinking about getting a new one, but it might be easier to cut this one down and have a seam in the center.
  5. Well? How did it work out? I had a bit of trouble getting the 2 tiny screws out and around the flywheel assy of the distributor. I will have to replace them later, but I did put some oil on them before I put them back, and they screwed in a lot easier.
Mark
  6. I recently purchased 2 very needed parts for my 70 Electra convertible from CARS, Inc. One was the hose from the air breather to the valve cover. The jury-rigged one worked, but always had a slight crimp in it. The correct part was nicely curved and turned to fit without crimping.
The 2nd improvement was the replacement of my 30+ year old vaccuum control under the distributor. I had replaced the blower motor and switch last summer with moderate results. I started the car up, and the blower was "screaming" in high. I was amazed at the difference. I now have air blowing on all of my speed settings.
I just thought that I would pass on a small success.
  7. You're right! There's nothing like driving the only car out that day that has powerful styling, and craftsmanship, that makes it really stand out!

  8. I sent you an email about the holder/backing plate for these. I might have already asked you...but here we are anyway!
  9. Palbuick has a nice product here. I bought the AC woodgrain cover for my 70 Electra, and it really cleaned up my dash.
Thanks again!
  10. I saw a recent tele-movie 3 months ago on cable about a man who murdered his wife in France, and the couple drove a 70 Electra sedan (which about blocked the whole little street in front of the house). There was a good shot of the husband driving away down the cobbled street in the "behemoth."

Thanks BUICKLOVER. Their web site looked good. I will check prices and get mine out for mailing this winter.

Same topic, different question: Has anyone replaced the band that connects the tuning knob and the tuner-runner? This is on a 70 Electra, AM-FM factory radio. Are they sealed units, and can one repair this, or is it better to replace the radio? I'd rather do it myself than mail the radio out for repair if it is an easy fix (wow, easy never happens on my Electra!).
  13. Original electric window motor for 69-70 Electra 2-door. Came out of a 70 Electra convertible.
email me at: jaxops@bellatlantic.net
  14. I made up my own on my computer. I would be happy to share it with any of you if you would like. It's for my 70 Electra convertible.
  15. I've used Northstar Bumpers twice, and have been Very satisfied with both the show-quality results and their quick turn-around and careful shipping.
  16. Email me if I can get a pair of 70 Electra tail light lenses. jaxops@bellatlantic.net
17. Don't be a wise-guy hvs. Because I judged this year and I know the point spread that they asked for to ascertain 1st and 2nd place. Whether or nor they used 3 points or 10 each I don't know. Although it is supposed to be standardized judging, with trained judges, I never said that it was done this way.
  18. There's a lot of hurt and bitterness out there. I caution you, especially the frustrated, hate-filled, Anti-Semite who commented earlier, to mourn, grieve, but watch whom you lash out against. You might be hurting another proud and productive American citizen. Thank God, cooler heads are prevailing in our nation, and we have the right mix of strong people in the President and his cabinet.
Think about where our families came from, and how our forefathers devoted themselves to defending and protecting their adopted country, and many died for it, making it safer, and more free for us today. God forgive us our trespasses, and free us from hate and anger.
For the victims of terrorist murders in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania: let us pray-
"Jesus, I live for you; Jesus, I die for you; Jesus, I am yours in life and in death. Receive, Lord, in tranquillity and peace, the souls of your servants who have departed out of this present life to be with you. Give them the life that knows no age, the good things that do not pass away; through Jesus Christ our Lord." Grant them your rest oh Lord, "May perpetual light shine upon them."
  19. You are right about the judges being different. After taking 1st place last year, I lost 120 points this year mostly from tires. One set of teams was wrong, but my guess is that they made an incorrect assumption that my type of tire wasn't available (it was) and took the points.
Unfortunately, there's no use arguing with them because you are labelled a "complainer." what they should do is provide you with the judging sheet on request.
  20. About every other tank in my 70 Electra 455-4, I put in lead additive, and sometimes I have to boost the octane. I also use hotter spark plugs, and the best wires that you can get to lower the resistance. I usually have to fool with the RPMs setting so it won't rattle the pistons when it get put under a load.
  21. This is a topic that has concerned a lot of us for some time now. I recently had my wife's 89 Crown Victoria SW AC overhauled, and we kept it R12. The conversion would have been another $4-500. I was worried about the R12 availablility for recharging, but so far, it has been there, but as stated you pay for it.
I have also heard the problems with the R134, as well as a comment that it actually is more toxic than R12- but I have no 1st hand knowledge of that.
I plan to replace the parts of my AC in my 70 Electra, and I will also keep it R12. I think that the RB might be a good alternative a few years out if it works well and avoids replacing the AC system for an R134 system.
  22. A 1970 Buick Electra 225 Custom Classic Convertible, white, with a black top. http://www.spokenwheel.com/p92.htm
  23. Hey Terry. We had a similar discussion on the BCA BB a while back. Pennsylvania controls the use of Classic and Antique tags by requiring photos of the car to be submited to the State Police as a part of the registration. This ensures that the car is not modified, and has been restored at least to road worthiness condition (as defined by PA).
They now also permit YOM plates on the front, but only if you carry antique or classic tags on the BACK.
Inspections for all of PA is annual now, but I've noticed, travelling back there with my daily driver and my 1997 inspection sticker, that the police have more to worry about than inspection stickers with all of the other violators to choose from.
I saw a 74 Chevy pickup on Independence Blvd, with a modified wooden back and souped up engine and tires, carrying antique VA plates.
  24. It looks like you have to cut the sewed-on, folded over seam. The trick is to resew it later and have it stand up to the strain of really using it. Since it's machine sewn and had to meet crash standards (such as they were), I wouldn't want to do it by hand.
  25. I grew up with Cadillac limousines, hearses, and flower cars (yes the funeral business), and we had a 1960 Fleetwood until 1966; and then continued to run and keep the older Caddys when they went "short and plastic" after 1975. I worked for my father through HS and college, and drove them everywhere. That 60 was the best!
The Fleetwoods may be a bit heavier than yours, but my Dad usually made 9-12 mpg in the city and 12mpg on the highway.
