Inline-8s

I also have a Buick Engine sitting on a bare chassi, the big 320 C.I. motor. There is almost a 3" diffeence between the 40/50 series and the 60/70/90 series motors. If pictures are helpful let me know. Also exactly whar you want as far a measurements.
palbuick@aol.com
Jim Schilf
  2. I also bought my exhaust system from Burton Waldron, but several years ago. The whole system was stainless with an alum. muffler, still on the car, a 66 Wildcat with dual exhaust. Pipes were an excellent fit, He made the tailpipe into two sections so it would be easier to install over the rear end.
You were smart to have the pipes in stainless, some of our cars get very little use and sit, this is when the steel pipes rot away fast. Also an investment when and if you ever sell the car, the next owner should not have to worry about replacing the system. I can't remember what my cost was but it was very reasonable at the time.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
  3. Anyone interested in a sweet looking 1966 Skylark 2 dr Ht. With 18k Miles. I saw the car last Sunday, A gold color(no vilyl roof)
two tone gold vinyl and cloth interior, a split at seam on drivers side and passangers side, looked like dry material was sat on and split, not worn. There was a ding in front of hood. No other damage. Could not see any signs of rot or repair, paint looked original, hard color to match or repair. Strictly a farmers car with P/S, P/B, AM radio. Asking price was $4900.00 Located in No/West Illinois, Belvidere, Ill Just outside of Rockford, Ill.. Tel # 815-544-4412. I have not talked to owner, I don't need another car.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
  4. I had the same problem with my 425, when rebuilt, cold oil pressure was 40 lbs, soon as it warmed up dropped to about 8 lbs. Tried every suggestion, blocked oil gallerys,
plugs in front of block in too far, spun front cam bering??. Finally I ordered a high volume oil pump from Carmen Faso, and went to a heavier oil. Now pressure is a steady
20-24 lbs hot and 45 lbs cold. Old phone # for Carmen Faso 716-693-4090, N.Y. He has many Buick Goodies and his REBUILDS are excellent, carbs, distributors, oil pumps.
Jim Schilf /palbuick@aol.com
  5. You are looking for the needle in hay-stack.
This bracket is the hardest and rarest bracket to locate. Most 2 X 4 setups I have seen for sale are missing this bracket. I have a dual quad set-up and also need the bracket. Mabye someone who has an extra one would consider reproducing bracket.
JIm Schilf /palbuick@aol.com
  6. The 1969 and 1970 front bumper emblems are completely different, the 69 emblem is a small trishield, chrome with a plastic insert
about 4-5 tall, the 70 emblem is about 8 inches tall an is a plastic part with a plastic trishield insert. Apossibility is that some time ago the car was in an accident and the only parts available were from a 69, hood fenders and bumper. In 69 the portholes were above the front fender molding, the 70's were below the molding.
Hope this helps
Jim Schif / palbuick@aol.com
  7. If you go throught your car very good, under the seats, between the springs and padding, under the gas tank, under the dash, in the door or rear seat panels, you might find an original production sheet. I have seen cars with 4-6 sheets, and some with only one, and some with none. This sheet should contain date of assembly, all factory options, date of delivery and dealers name. Good hunting.
  8. There are several items now on the marker, for pulling motors. An adjustable sling. or a plate that will bolt to the intake manifold, after carb is removed, and has several hole in it for balancing, either one will work excellently. I believe that eastwood has one in their catalog.
Jim Schilf /palbuick@aol.com

The most accurate way is to pull the cover and check the numbers stamped on the ring gear.
A 3.08 ratio stamped on ring gear 40-13
3.42 " " " 41-12
3.73 " " " 41-11
2.73 " " " 41-15
The 350 GS had as std 3.08 and optional
3.42
The 455 GS had as std 3.42 book dose not show optinal gear, but a 445 was avail.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@ao.com
  14. Hi Bill
The wood in a Model A is a hole lot different from your Buick, most of A wood is inside the frame and fairly easy to make, in fact there is a wood kit fot the A, buy it out of a book. As for your car I think the wood is a souther white ash, a very hard wood, with all the curves and joints this is quite a job. I was luck when I bought my 49 the wood was excellent and only needed refinishing. As I am not a woodworker, would have never taken on a task like this.
Let us know how you make out, taking the body off.
Good luck
JIm Schilf
  15. I remember the car. It was parked on Belmont Ave. In chicago for some time . I knew the owner, It was a Mess, rotted floors, Quarters,Can't remember where it came from.
I had just gotten my car a few months before, so I wasan't to interested at the time. I don't remember what happened to that car.
Thanks for reminding me.
JIM SCHILF

    1940 Horn

If you pull the horn ring off you should see
a contact wire, this wire goes down inside the steering column to the contact at the bottom of the column. This wire could be broken, contact bad.
Take a good look at this wire, probably why there was a external horn button.
Jim Schilf/palbuick
  19. Hi Bill
Try J.B.Donaldson Co.
2533 W. Cypress
Phoenix, Az.85009
602-2784505
He has wood kits for Buicks from 46 to 53.
One of our Chicagoland Chapter members has a twin to that woodie.
Jim Schilf

20. Hi Bill.
I don't like to knock anyone by if the wood is that bad, do you have any idea of the expense of replacing it, unless you are a woodworker.
Example of Replacing wood cost, the rear piece from the roof line down to the bumper, will cost between 350 to 700, depending on year, that is only one side. There is a national woody club, a good start before starting project,
As for support and bracing, I don't know about any special bracing. Support: several strong buddies, pizza and beer.
I built a special frane of 2x4s and 2x6s on wheels, one for each side of body, about 36" high, jacked the whole car up high enough to slide several 2x6 between frame and body, this is where the beer and pizza pays off.
Then let the frame down, I had enough room under the body to work on underside,
Quite a lot of work, I don't think I would do it again.
Hope this has helped
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
  21. Hi Bill
I had a 49 buick Woodie several years ago, and helped several others with woodies.
taking the body off the frame could be hazardous to the wood, if not properly braced or supported. I don't know what year your car is (before 1953) but the wood joints are probably dry, and will split apart if body is not supported properly. I would leave doors on the car, for more support.
Good Luck
JIM SCHILF / palbuick@aol.com
  22. I know the car,a good friend of mine, Steve Ledger, he recently purchased it. Two Wildcat GS, within 40 miles of each other. His is Yellow/Black, mine is Red/White.
I would like to locate more of thes cars.
Thanks for information.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com

  24. If you ckeck Hemmings you will find several vendors who repair the old bulb and line temp gauges. A little cheaper than trying to find a new one.
Need anything else for a 39?
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
