4. Thanks Roberta, If i had known this years ago
that 70 Cat would not have been an every day driver. I don't know if you can remember the only Wildcat at the GS Nationals during the mid 80's. A litle out of place those days. I still have the 70 Wildcat Convt. along with my 66 Wildcat GS convert. Found a 70 Wildcat convt.Rough, but a good pats car. Did you hear that Steve Ledger bought a 66 Wildcat GS convt, Tried to buy mine, settled for a yellow convt, from Wisconsin, a really nice car. Talk about showmanship, seeing 2 Wildcat GS convts in the same show. And owners living about 30 miles apart. Where are the other 196 of these cars? I am all for a Wildcat page.
1940 Century Convt(grandfater of Wildcat)
1966 Wildcat GS convt
1970 Wildcat convt.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
  5. Mark
You have been in my garage, and were peeking.
I cut the cross brace out, made a pattern on clear plastic of old tar paper. Then transfered on to the tar paper. I havent finished yet, need some work done on the lid before putting it back together. I used a heat gun to soften old material and scraped it clean. I even found original steel stamp from steel mfg.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
  6. I recently purchased this material for my 40 Buick. Same type of a tar paper with the waffel type pattern, a bit thinner than original. Purchased from CARS, INc. the sheet size is about 24 X 36. You will probably need two sheets, cost was about $16. per.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
  7. Hi Russ
Like Roberta said I used to have a 70 Wildcat
with the bucket seats. Rear ended about 9 years ago. What a car, All Black, no vinyl top, black bucket seats with the console,P/S
P/w, P/bucket(drivers side only) A/C, AM-FM, Tape player, Posi rear, 3.08 gear. There are a few more like it around. I was never able to get figures on the Wildcats with The buckets. I think I still have a few pictures around if interested, send me an email.
Good luck
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
  8. I do not represent my 1970 front bumper emblem as new , only a reproduction. I admit it is not perfect, and any that I have sold I have always offered a refund if not satisfied. This was a very expensive project to start with, and I tried to keep the cost as low as possible. My price is always postpaid, for this emblen, no extra charges.
The few original emblems around are 2-3 times
the cost of my emblem, with no guarentte that it won't crack or split when installing.
I also reproduced the woodgrain dash inserts for the 70's, several years ago, and have never had any complaints
All of my postings are signed with my name and email address.
If MR. ANONYMOUS was not satified he should have returned his emblen, which he chose not to do.
Jim schilf / palbuick@aol.com

    SANDBLASTING?

Just how rusty is you frame? surface rust or are there holes and weak spots.
Snadblasting the frame they usually use about 125 psi or higher. There are other options, media blasting with plastic pellets, soda blasting, or chemical dipping.
Of the 4 options soda and media blasting are the most expensive, dipping a little less and sand blasting with silica sand probably the least expensive, depending where you live.
You could take the frame with suspension attached and have it all chemically stripped at once saving some cash. Let your fingers do
the walking.
Jim Schilf / palbuick
  20. I have a 3 x 2 Offenhauser alum intake for the 364 Buick, on mine there are 3 ford carbs, all are a 3 bolt mounting. You can use Ford 94's even had one with a 39 Buick carb in the center and 2 ford 94"s front and rear. Be careful of some modifications, sometimes the mounting holes to the heads are elongated to fit the 401"s.
Jim Schilf /palbuick@aol.com

Never got to see what motor, but can imagine that it was the smallest and cheapest, as this was a cheapie car.
Jim Schif / palbuick

  24. Father Ron.
I have never met you but keep up the great work on this form. I enjoy reading every
night. Can't understand why more people have not registured. Oh well. Those that are registured seem to be quite informed about all aspects of restoration, and enjoy helping those who don't.
There is no thing as a stupid question, most
of us learned by asking questions, some stupid.
Keep up the great work.
JIm Schilf / palbuick

    Engine Painting

I learned something years ago, from an old Buick assembly line mechanic. Buick painted all their motors after assembly. Anything that had a seal(gasket) oil and water, was assembled and painted together. The motors were then tested. Intake, exhaust, breather pipes, were added down the line.
Probably all Mfgs did the same process, saved
time and money.
Jim Schilf / palbuick
