  1. Is the price based on pre-fire value?Engine is pretty simple, How durable are the webbed castings and carb, maybe a head resurface and gasket changeout, carb rebuild?
  2. https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/d/effingham-1940-packard-120/7376567373.html Here's the same car with photos of the interior. In better condition.
  3. FSM says on the left side axle tube near the spring mount but not to be found.
  4. Probably not too expensive asking price considering the style and straight 8. The interior is another question, could be a tattered smelly mess. It's a project car for sure, a little dented up, rusty chrome but if it was cleaned up it would turn heads. Good enough to drive down to the local pub?
  5. Straight 8 and 3 on the tree, 3rd window, I wonder if he would sweeten the deal by throwing in those old style gas containers that one could actually pour the gas out of, without spilling it everywhere.
  6. https://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/d/shelton-1940-packard-120-model-1801/7378452037.html A running original Packard 120. Needs a gas tank or tank resto at a minimum, but the owner states the car is solid and unmolested. Located in Shelton, CT
  7. That's a real sharp car for a good price. Could be an customizer's webbing that is chrome looking plastic but its subtle and matches the style. Someone wanted to take this car a step further with that, the red rims, and the paint.
  8. Does anyone know if the differential on a 55 Wasp has an air vent anywhere on it? Or any differential? I had a lube leak that only occurred while driving. The NPT plug at the bottom was leaking, it was deformed. I had changed the gasket and lube a while back but didnt know it had a plug until I saw the leak. I just replaced it but havent ran the car since. Wondering if it was building up pressure from heat due to a restricted vent hole.
  9. Snazzy car indeed, I bet the resto cost 40,000.
  10. I would say those multi-generational cars have seen many student drivers, plenty of mis-shifts, overestimated parking spaces, roads that weren't as straight as they thought... the body shops were multi generational too.
  11. Yea, most were ridiculously painted like a 50 Chevy truck in bright orange but it's ok for a work calendar. Last year was mischevious cats. No girly stuff anymore, times have changed.
  12. You've just sparked some interest in the car, it's not available if someone did have 180 freshly minted Benjis to hand you?
  13. I've seen many vintage cars in southern state ads that had AC added. I guess they needed it to be comfortable in the heat. Could be the reason for white paint also.
  14. Even a hand wash and vacuum would make it presentable. A tarp or cover over the vehicle in an add always looks bad. Some quick research about the make and model, a paragraph added to the post makes it look like you are a conscientious owner. 2 hours of time total. Any time I sell a car, I wash it inside and out, even the engine bay with a hand scrubber and car soap. Gives the impression that the car was liked and treated well. One car I sold, the buyer looked under the hood and his eyes lit up, and he said "I'll take it", for asking price! He instantly disregarded dents and scratches from various mishaps.
  15. I found a huge crater on the sidewall of the front tire on my wife's car while removing them for replacement. The hubcaps have a nice "machine turned" custom finish on them also. Maybe the feelers aren't such a bad idea in some cases, but too many add-ons make anything look hideous. This 1952 Chevrolet Styline made it onto this month's Uline calendar. Sweet car but the flags, feelers, headlight caps and windshield visor kind of kill it.
  16. Joining a forum just for for the sake of posting a car for sale and throwing some wild asking price out there without making even a feeble attempt to present the car is BS.
  17. Maybe because I dont have Facebook, it shows listing ended. The back looks like it has peeling paint on the fenders. Someone could repair the bad areas repaint in satin black, blending into the original if they wanted keep it looking original. The body shell white looks pretty good, I wouldn't touch that. Pretty unique style. Get it roadworthy and blast around the backroads.
  18. Are the photos from 1960 also? Is the tarp stuck to the body?
  19. The wood looks new, the siding is AC plywood, will check in a matter of time and won't hold a finish well. Okoume or Sapelle mahogany boatbuilding ply would be rot resist and hold a finish. Original was probably planking, reused shipping crate stock?
