  1. No worry about trying to find it in the parking lot, either - unless you happened to attend your local Dirigible/Zeppelin festival. There were a few (I want to say) French vehicles during the Great War that were converted to use different types of fuels.
  2. I'm sure some of our intrepid readers will remember this homemade adaptation. I guess we shouldn't be so sensitive when some people comment: "Wow! Look at the size of that old boat!"
  3. That is a terrific looking little car! Love the single cylinder too; no guesswork as to which plug wire is arcing or which piston doesn't have compression!
  4. Mike: depending on where you are in the country, I think the tri-tone also helped us in the snow belts help identify our rides a bit more easily when digging them out....😉. "Is that lump your car, Sir, or mine?"
  5. You should come back and visit, Leif - we've moved into the modern age. Calgary International just opened a new dirigible hangar: Calgary to California in only 76 hours (prevailing winds depending)! I know I shouldn't be surprised any longer, but still an eye-opener to see some of the things hidden away in your own city. I don't recall ever seeing either one of these Cads around, either shows or just cruising. I like the fact this stuff is still out there.
  6. A bit of custom work done apart from paint; the hood ornament mounts are filled in, and heat louvres have been added to the hood. I'm a Packard fan, but these last gasp Clippers have that strange body line which makes any two-tone paint combo look odd to my eye; it's like they tried to add the Buick sweepspear line to the car, but shortened it. Doesn't help the lines.
  7. Sorry, Wayne - I’m out digging around a private library in Canterbury this morning, but will try and get some more info when I get back to the City!
  8. Walt, you’ll be glad to hear that the food at The Swan is still excellent (and the bar service is quite swift and generous - especially judging by the sounds of last night’s patrons enjoying the Guy Fawkes/Bonfire weekend). It’s 0815 Sunday here, and the Run is on. The rain is coming down in sheets right now, which is the first heavy day of rain I’ve seen here for the past two weeks; nice to see the Universe likes to keep inclement weather in reserve for all old car events, no matter where they take place! Not a great pic, but these were parked in front of the Royal Automobile Club on Piccadilly yesterday as I was going by.
  9. Was just walking around the corner from my hotel when this beauty pulled up in front of a pub on the north edge of Hyde Park. Some great machines entered in the run this year: https://www.veterancarrun.com
  10. Rochester: Boss, why don’t you trade in the Maxwell and get a new car? Jack: What for? This car always gets us where we want to go. Rochester: I know - but look how much older we are when we get there!
  11. A “last run” for me in the ‘53 in a few respects. Weather changed last weekend, as did ownership! Drove her to a friend’s place for transport pickup, and the car is off to the new owner. A great machine.
  12. Jack drives a sporty two-door in this scene:
  13. Good advice on all the above, Rusty. The last pushrod by cylinder 8 just needs a little "english" (to borrow a billiards phrase) to get it out, which is why the firewall on the Specials has that little dimple/indent. Since you have the head off anyway, taking the rocker arm assembly apart is an easy thing to do, just to check for any severe wear on the shaft, etc. If you have access to a spring tester, you may want to test all your inner and outer valve springs to see if they're still within spec. When I rebuilt the head on my Special, the valve springs had been replaced by the previous owner and they looked fine, but were the wrong ones for the car.
  14. Thursdays at 9, tune into "Car guys say the darndest things!" "And that's how Dad taught me how to use Bondo!"
  15. Great looking car, Bob 👍 Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of support, knowledge and encouragement from the Buick guys on here (along with some good humour and kidding), which is great as you start getting into your car. I'm down in Calgary, and will be hammering away on my '41 this winter. Keep us posted on your car; glad to assist if we can.
  16. My low-miles '53 Roadmaster 72R has been given over to the tender mercies of Ebay, and has been listed for sale. I'm posting the link here, for the interest of anyone who may wish to take a look. I know that everyone who sells a car like ours (i.e.: older/classic) generally has an attachment to them that's something more than just to a piece of machinery - and I'm the same way. Without any hype, this car has led something of a charmed life, and is a really nice example (even though it's "just a sedan"). The broker is a car guy and restorer himself, and would be glad to answer any questions. I'm also fine to answer a couple of questions, if any forum member wishes to message me (attached is my favourite pic of this car, me driving while my crazy photographer friend hung halfway out a passing car to get this shot. I think it was worth it!). https://www.ebay.com/itm/155197897859 Thanks,

  18. You would have been drawn to the Washington one, Ed (as the interior was the same colour as the old blue Crown Royal bags were). 😉
  19. "Golden Spirit".....okay. I think that spirit requires an exorcism.
  20. Highly prejudiced, but I think 1941 Buicks look great from all angles, and they're terrific machines. There was one listed in Washington State that @Matt Harwood posted awhile back (had the all-blue velvet interior), for only around 5k (which works out to about a buck a pound). I was seriously considering it, but ended up getting another '41 Buick model instead. I hope it went to someone who's going to restore it, or just get it safe for the road and run/enjoy it as it is. There are two of them currently being listed on Ebay (not mine), but for someone who needs some parts, would be an immediate source. https://www.ebay.com/itm/144717993704?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180816085401%26meid%3D4ef3ab62db8545968c62255da6c2c561%26pid%3D100970%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D155197897859%26itm%3D144717993704%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100970.m5481&_trkparms=pageci%3Ae8c109ea-47f8-11ed-bb62-0e6a61c852ae|parentrq%3Abdd1d9481830acb47acf0cdafff1c1e2|iid%3A1
  21. The ad copy for that writes itself: "Rides on an All-Party platform and offers the driver either 4 or 8 years of almost unimpeachable performance!"
  22. Whoever spends a full night in this camper will be eligible for a free sheep dip and tetanus shot the next day! https://www.autoevolution.com/news/crusty-old-1949-buick-super-is-half-sedan-half-diy-camper-100-percent-outrageous-194552.html?utm_source=ae_self&utm_medium=ae_moreon&utm_campaign=ae_moreon_news_static#agal_3
  23. He's also a really gifted comedian; he's incredibly funny in "Arrested Development."
